Our millions of years of evolution as omnivores is impossible to deny. Eating meat is in our DNA. Which is why vegans crave meat (those who deny this fact are liars). And it's why vegan food is often made to mimic meat. That said, I fully support ethical treatment and slaughter of animals and eat a ton of veggies.

Private Eye...Unlike the Guardian moderators, I understood your point. I've had serious food poisoning 3 times in my life. Each time I indeed thought I was dying.

Ellis tar Ceansa...The human species is indeed a couple hundred thousands years old. But we’re the result of millions of years of evolution (billions if you consider we’re connected to the first life forms) and share common ancestors with all our mammalian cousins, including fellow omnivores such as bears. Those ancestors evolved over millions of years as omnivores. It is an agreed upon scientific fact that we likely wouldn’t be here if our ancestors didn’t start making meat a key part of our diet, particularly with respect to our brain development. The rapid (relatively speaking) evolution that occurred because of this change to a predominantly meat diet had significant issues, including our digestive tract (as you correctly point out) and our teeth/jaw. The latter change is why we have wisdom teeth. Therefore, it’s an inconvenient truth for vegans that eating meat is indeed in their DNA. They can certainly choose to ignore millions of years of evolution but I choose to embrace it. I could go on and debate a couple other points but I have to go. This chat has me craving meat...so I’m going to barbecue a big juicy steak. Just like my ancestors. All the best.

And deny millions of years of successful evolution as an omnivore? Nope.
