There should never be ANY religious displays in government buildings.

@RJStockton We’re a secular country. No religion should be singled out for special treatment. Either all religions (including Satanism) can put up displays in government buildings or none can.

Satanism is defined as a religion in our country. They get all the same benefits and tax breaks as other religions, including Christianity and Scientology. The Founding Fathers ensured we’d be a secular country with no single religion.

One could definitely argue that religion also hurts society. Fortunately much less so here than other countries. It’s great we’re a secular country.

@mcbroseph69 Apologies. You seemed like someone who’d understand you’re in the public square and would welcome free speech. My mistake.

Definitely freedom of speech. Scientology should’ve set up a booth with pamphlets for even more fun.

@mcbroseph69 Athiest conservatives are very common. We can define a woman.

@Enter-a-name-7789 Human morals evolved as we did over millions of years. We had to learn right from wrong to survive. For example, our ancestors quickly learned that killing and stealing were wrong. We also learned that forming communities (tribes) where everyone cooperated and got along was critical for survival. As we formed the first organized cultures and societies tens of thousands of years ago these basic morals and ethics became the norm. For example, the “Golden Rule” (do unto others…) was adopted and even written down, in China for example. Many cultures developed laws based on these basic morals and ethics, in Ancient Rome and Greece for example.

@Enter-a-name-7789 I'm glad religion has helped you. The important thing to remember from our chat is that morals don't come from religion. Since you brought up tribes in North America I think it's important you realize the harm religion has done to these peoples. Perhaps the worst example is what happened up in Canada. The Catholic Church, in cooperation with the government, ran "Residential Schools" for native kids for decades, right up to the 1970s. They forcibly removed native kids from their families and homes for forced education and religious indoctrination. The kids were abused and many died. They also lost their native culture and the negative effects of residential schools on native families and culture is still a major issue in Canada. All because of religion. If you research the residential school topic you'll find the Pope and Catholic Church has formerly apologized and the Canadian government has paid out $Billions in reparations. What boggles my mind is there are still native peoples in Canada who are Christians/Catholics. Even after their religion destroyed countless lives.

You’re right about the Founding Fathers. They wanted to ensure we’d be a secular country free from the church. Many were deists who really disliked Christianity. They didn’t want to make the same mistake Britain made.

@Enter-a-name-7789 Fair points. I’m an atheist conservative so I agree there are some good values pushed by Christianity in the country, particularly with respect to families. That said, we don’t need religion for morality. Millions of good people in the country who aren’t part of any of the many organized religions are proof of that.
