Comments by "Hugh Jorgan" (@HughJorgan1) on "BEST OF ROAD RAGE | Brake Check, Karens, Bad Drivers, Instant Karma, Crashes | March USA 2023" video.
It was a classic zipper merge scenario due to the construction zone and stop-go traffic. The cammer did the right thing by using the empty lane. It was ridiculous so many people formed a long single line.

@glennrishton5679 If you want to be “courteous” by forming one massive line when there’s an empty lane that should be used, go for it. The cammer was the only smart one on that road. There should be a national education campaign teaching people the benefits of the zipper merge. Some states are even making them law.

The cammer did the right thing. In a zipper merge scenario both lanes should be used right up to the pinch point (cones). Then vehicles alternate. It’s the most effective way to move traffic.

@CP-de6yt Wrong. It’s not self centred to drive correctly. Both lanes are open right up to the pinch point because it’s a zipper merge scenario. All the people forming one massive line are causing needless traffic congestion. It’s actually very self centred of them. Don’t feel bad for being wrong. You’re among dozens in this comment section who are uneducated on the efficacy of zipper merges, especially when there’s road work.

Some states are making zipper merges law, Illinois for example. You get a ticket if you don’t let someone get in front of you at the pinch point. Other states are making it a part of driver training and doing education campaigns. It’s mind boggling how many people don’t realize zipper merges are the most effective way to move traffic and reduce congestion, particularly in a construction zone scenario like the video clip. The cammer passed a couple dozen people who stupidly formed one massive line when both lanes should’ve been used.

@CurtinChad This clip was on two vids from this channel and I’ll bet 75% of those commenting were criticizing the cammer, like the one above. It’s mind boggling how many people don’t know what a zipper merge is.

@dreadnoughtprime6301 Zipper merges will likely become law in more states because people just don’t understand they’re the best way to reduce congestion and move traffic. People think they’re being nice my forming a massive line (as shown in the clip) when they actually should be utilizing both lanes and alternating vehicles at the pinch point. The cammer did the right thing.

@electrictroy2010 I can find no such law. No state would require people to “move right immediately” and form one line when two lanes are available. If they want only one lane used they block off the others.

@dreadnoughtprime6301 Look up “Benefits of the zipper merge” and read the studies. It’s clear from this comment section more people need to educate themselves.

@oohellyaa08 You noticed hey, lol. As I said in my comments, it’s because there’s so many people who don’t know when to use a zipper merge and/or think it’s ok to block vehicles trying to get in front of them. They’re why states are having to make zippers the law (tickets for people who won’t yield) and others are doing education campaigns.

@oohellyaa08 Yep. ESPECIALLY when it’s a road work situation. The reason 2 lanes are open is so they’re both used, thus reducing congestion. It’s also safer.
