@seekeroftruth6728 Incorrect. The canmer is the only one driving correctly. Forming one massive line in a construction zone scenario is not only idiotic it's illegal in some states.

# 3…Kudos to the cammer! He knew what to do in a zipper merge scenario. Unfortunately, a couple dozen others who formed a single line are clueless. There should be a national education campaign on the effectiveness of the zipper merge.
12
@cousingrandpa Incorrect, that was a textbook zipper merge. The cammer correctly went to the end of the open lane (which is why it’s there) and didn’t contribute to the massive line of people with no understanding of the concept. Since you think he was an “entitled jackass” for doing so you really need to do some research on the concept. You also sound like you’re one of those people who won’t let someone zipper in front of you. That’ll get you a ticket in some states so you’d best educate yourself. It’s all the people in this section with no understanding of zipper merges who are making it necessary for states to put in laws.
8
@bobdavidson756 Nope. If they wanted one lane to be used that far back they’d have moved the cones. You fill both lanes right up to the merge point.
6
I hope “a lot of people” doesn’t include you lol. It’s idiotic to form one massive line when two lanes are available.
5
@AndyDrake-FOOKYT Some states have made zipper merging law. You'd best do some research because yours might be one of them lol.

@@theanti-propagandist5116 I feel your pain lol! It’s mind boggling how many people in this comment section don’t understand a zipper merge. Worse, it appears many are unwilling to look it up and educate themselves. They’re the ones who’ll form one massive single line and rage at the smart people passing them to do the zipper.
4
@swinde Filling both lanes up to the merge point has been proven through numerous studies to be the most efficient way to move traffic (look it up). The other major benefit of the zipper merge is that traffic doesn’t back up in one lane for miles, which can needlessly impact intersections, driveways, etc. If they want only one lane used they block it off. They leave 2 lanes open for as long as possible to allow a zipper merge. The cammer was right and everyone who formed a massive single line needs to learn how to drive, especially the idiot who raged.
4
@MrIrishalley It’s good you understand it reduces congestion prior to the pinch point. That’s a major factor in moving traffic efficiently. Bottom line, the cammer executed a perfect zipper merge. Hopefully a bunch of the vehicles who were in that long line followed his lead and formed two lines right up to the merge point. But I doubt it. Again, there should be a national education campaign on the zipper merge. They should also put big signs saying “Zipper Merge Here!” at merge points. And the exclamation point is needed.
4
@MrIrishalley Incorrect. He executed a perfect zipper merge. He went right to the end of the lane that ended, which is exactly what they wanted. In order to do so he had to pass a bunch of people who clearly don’t know what a zipper merge is, particularly the idiot who raged at him.
4
Nope. You fill both lanes up to the merge point. The cammer was right.
4
@FuturePants Bully?! Lol, dude you need to look up what a zipper merge is. Vehicles alternate at the pinch point. If everyone knew how to do it there wouldn’t be people like the idiot rager in the video.
3
@FuturePants Lol, you’re free to get in one big line and cause traffic mayhem. Just don’t get mad when people pass you and correctly zipper merge.
3
@MrIrishalley Apologies, I now realize it wasn't you who called the canmer a narcissist. I'm involved in a few different discussions on this topic lol.
2
@bradmclean2817 Incorrect. A zipper merge scenario also occurs with stop-go traffic, such as construction zones. Vehicles are supposed to fill BOTH lanes right up to the pinch point, and then alternate. This was a perfect zipper merge scenario and the cammer was the only one who seemed to realize it. The dozens of people forming a single line (that was barely moving) were creating unnecessary congestion.
2
@FuturePants Hopefully by now you’ve figured out the flaw in your reasoning. The major factor making this a zipper merge scenario is it’s a construction zone. It’s not a normal traffic flow situation. The reason he had to pass everyone is they were idiots who formed one long line rather than two lines. Everyone is supposed to fill two lanes and zipper at the pinch point. They’re all doing the same stop-go maneuver (and speed) at that point. Using your logic, everyone would get in one massive line and leave the other lane empty. This is nonsensical. Think about how far back that line could go if everybody was clueless on zipper merges? 1 mile? 2 miles? That’s chaos. It’s mind boggling how many people in this comment section aren’t looking at the situation correctly, especially the fact it’s a construction zone scenario. Its why there should be a national education campaign and huge signs telling people to fill both lanes and zipper merge in that scenario.

Some states have made zipper merging the law. They've had to do this because so many people incorrectly think they don't "work in practice". If everybody knew how do it this wouldn't be a discussion.
2
@ATFChat As long as people remain clueless as to the effectiveness of the zipper merge it’ll be MUCH faster for intelligent drivers like the cammer in the clip lol! He passed a couple dozen vehicles and probably shortened his time to get through the construction zone by 5 minutes. Fortunately, some states are making the zipper law (tickets for those who don’t let someone get in front of them) and many others are doing education campaigns. Judging by this comment section both are desperately needed.
2
@spencera3075 Which is why many of our states are making it law lol! It’s the only way to get people to smarten up.

@MrIrishalley Lol, the merging sign doesn't mean you have to do it right away! If they wanted only one lane to be used at that point they'd block of the other lane. All I can do is educate people who don't understand how to zipper merge. There's a lot of you in this section, unfortunately. If you all want to be the idiots who form one massive line WAY too soon, go for it. Just don't get angry when smart drivers pass you. The other thing you need to realize is some states (ie Utah and Illinois) have made zipper merges in construction zone scenarios the LAW. So if you plan on blocking drivers who pass you to get to the front of the line and try to zipper you may get a ticket.
1
@MrIrishalley I'm glad you cited that Minnesota study. More people in this section need to read up on the effectiveness of the zipper merge You'll also note I indicated a ticket would only be given out if a person blocks someone zipper merging, like the idiot rager in the vid. Regarding going the same speed to merge, that's usually impossible because traffic is stop and go for construction zones, as shown in the vid. Bottom line, it appears you understand what a zipper merge is and will no longer think people who fill both lanes are "narcissistic" or are doing something wrong. Have a good one.
1
@IvyEvans Lol someone has to be first, and in this case the smart one. He filled the lane up to the merge point perfectly.
1
@kilgoringtroutless6295 Read my other comment just above yours. Cammer is doing the right thing.
1
@tjknox8936 People who don’t let a person get in front of them in a zipper scenario are idiots. They’re why some states are making it a law. Try blocking someone in those states and you could get a ticket.
1
@kilgoringtroutless6295 Do 2 minutes of research on zipper merging and you’ll realize you’re wrong. Research shows it’s the most effective way to move traffic, especially in a construction zone scenario. You should also research whether your state has made it a law. If you plan on blocking smart drivers who are zipper merging it could get you a ticket.
