On the topic of tracking time...I propose we pick a year to change the global calendar to correct humanity's egregious error aligning with the fictional birth of a fictional character. We should stop enabling the Jesus delusion and the Christian cult by recognizing their unoriginal God-story.
While it's great we now use the correct term "Before Common Era-- BCE" instead of the ridiculous 'BC', we need to do more. I propose we develop a new calendar based on science. Archaeology proves our species was tracking time over 10,000 years ago. Using that knowledge, we could argue this is approximately the year 10,019.
Of course, if we wanted to be even more big-picture in our thinking, we could base a new calendar on the first evidence of life (about 3.5 billion years ago) or the earth itself (about 4.5 billion years). But that's a lot of zeros for a calendar. So I propose the 10,000 solution.
Yes, it's a bit radical. And yes, we'd have to give about a decade's warning for all the updates to computers, etc. And yes, we'd want to be as accurate as possible determining whether this is the year 10,019... or 10,029. But whatever we do will be FAR more accurate than basing a calendar on a fictional story. We've made radical changes such as this in our past. Time for another.
