2:21 is so true. I guarantee there's already plenty of thrill seekers, adrenaline junkies etc. flocking to this spot. And many think they're better or smarter than those who died... and will take the exact same risks. Worse, many will undoubtedly film their bravery/stupidity. And the cycle will continue.

They're not 'doing' anything to themselves. They're giving Meng a chance to rigorously defend herself in court and following proper legal processes. Something China wouldn't understand.

@RB01138 "all the time"?...we're clearly not accessing the same videos. If you can find a recent video regarding anything political or of national interest that allows comments, let me know. The last trending vid that this channel allowed comments was the romaine lettuce issue. No comments were allowed for the government's financial update. No comments for Trudeau's approach to Saudi Arabia. etc etc.

While I like your sentiment, I wish people would stop bringing superstitious nonsense such as 'prayer' into every tragedy or incident. You might as well have referred to your daily horoscope... and sent its positive message out to him and his family. It would have had the exact same relevance.

@f0ry0u81 I understand your point. But can you explain why they'd suppress free speech on videos of critical importance, such as the recent government financial update? Or the private school scandal? Or recent indigenous topics/issues? (I edited my original comment to add more examples of suppression of free speech after checking the channel's home page.) And I'll remind you CBC is a taxpayer-funded corporation that receives close to a $Billion dollars a year from citizens. Why won't they allow those citizens to comment?

Speaking of conspiracies, I have a few questions to gauge if you're a paid protester for US-based environmental groups: 1. Do you support BC being one of the worlds largest exporters for coal? 2. Do you support the planned increase in cruise ship traffic in BC waters? 3. Do you support the Natural Gas project in Northern BC that will result in a massive increase in tanker traffic in waters that currently have very little? They're all yes/no questions... but feel free to elaborate. Bonus question: Do you support BC annually dumping billions of gallons of raw sewage directly into ocean waters around the lower mainland?

@displaychicken You make a very good point. Your logic implies you're not religious. Most responses to facts surrounding the prayer delusion include insults and/or references to "hell". Members of the Christian and Muslim cults really don't like to have their brainwashing, rituals, or god-stories questioned. Thank you for the logical opinion.

I believe the majority of BC citizens and many First Nations support the project? BC needs to take action on the billions of gallons of raw sewage they're pumping into the oceans around Victoria and Vancouver. That must be having a major effect on marine life. And I believe there were a number of 'no swimming' warnings for ecoli last summer. Beautiful BC indeed.

The media love to use words like ever, record, all-time and historic for weather and storm events. These are massive lies-by-omission. We only have accurate weather data for about 100 years and storm strength data for about 50 years. On a 4.5 billion year old planet.

I'll take advantage of this channel allowing comments. Here's a few pent-up comments not allowed on recent political vids. Free speech was prohibited by State-Media. I mean, CBC. 1. While 'yellow vest' protests are a good thing, the best way for Canadians to make a difference is to vote out its globalist photo-op leader and the Leftist party he represents. Globalism isn't working. 2. Trudeau would rather risk national security and spend $Billions on illegal (sorry, "irregular") migrants, Saudi Oil, and terrorists than his own country's economy and citizens. 3. Trudeau has lied repeatedly, been under ethics investigations, is renovating his vacation cabin with your tax dollars, and is over-taxing to save the world, despite the fact Canada provides a tiny percentage of global pollution. I could go on. I'll apologize in advance if I force comments to be disabled by State Media.

@KingOfMooreLab ...I agree there's an entire network of companies and individuals using legal loopholes to import fentanyl and other dangerous drugs from China. Which are then sold illegally to drug cartels and traffickers. That's a separate issue. The topic I raised is that it's estimated China is the source for 90% of the ILLEGAL shipments/trafficking of opioids and other chemicals/drugs used to manufacture pills, etc. Drug cartels in Mexico, America, Eastern Europe and other areas appear to have trafficking networks based in China. It all makes one wonder just how much China knows and whether they're deliberately allowing the networks to operate. Hence my question about "zero tolerance". In October 2017, US authorities announced the first ever indictments against two Chinese individuals for conspiracy "to distribute large quantities" of fentanyl as well as other opioids. For those trying to defend China, or suggesting there isn't an issue, I just shake my head. They need to ask themselves why China has acknowledged the problem and have taken some action if there's no problem?! For example, China recently restricted more than 150 chemicals that can be used to create synthetic drugs and have introduced many other controls at the urging of other countries. Innocent countries don't take actions such as these. China knows they've got a huge problem. Finally, I agree with those in this section who've pointed out the past British atrocities on China. But that's a completely separate discussion. It's highly illogical for people to suggest it's Ok for China to be complicit in the deaths of thousands with their illegal supply and trafficking of drugs. Two wrongs don't make a right. And to very clear, I'm not defending the loser caught trafficking meth. If he's indeed guilty (remember, this is China's justice system we're talking about), he deserves harsh punishment.

I think its far more complicated than that. Canada is fed up with China's ongoing crimes against humanity, human rights violations, abuse of it's immigration laws, money laundering, drug trafficking (opioids), birth tourism, etc. Remember, it has a globalist, far-left leader in Trudeau. Although he's complimented China's "dictatorship", he lies constantly.

I'm more irritated that water companies such as foreign-owned Nestle pay $2.25...for every MILLION litres of water taken from B.C rivers. (not a typo...$2.25 for a million litres!). Although they pay taxes and employ many at their plants and distribution centres... just do the math on their profit margin.

So... here's my comment on the Romaine lettuce issue: 1. Morneau's economic update was a joke. Trudeau is ruining Canada domestically and internationally and must be removed from power next year. 2. The tax and spend policies of the Liberal government aren't sustainable. 3. There's an immigrant crisis in this country due to Trudeau's 'hugs and kisses' approach to our border. 4. Former ISIS terrorists must NEVER be allowed to live in Canada. Deport those already here and shut the door to those waiting to come back. Their families need to accept their children are no longer welcome. 5. There must be immediate changes to legislation, and FAR more corporate incentives than were announced yesterday, to get pipeline infrastructures (both east AND west) built as soon as possible. That's just a start. Thank you CBC for allowing me to express an opinion on serious national issues like the Romaine lettuce crisis.

A quick check on Burkina Faso indicates it's a francophone country so it makes more sense why this couple would travel there. But I wouldn't put countries whose government is in power due to a rebellion on my list of places to visit. Aside from that, there's far worse countries in Africa to visit from a security perspective. Let's hope this is all a mistake or misunderstanding.

wearsut...You're partly correct. However, the key issue in the US is the number of guns (there's more of them than there are citizens) and therefore the very easy ACCESS to them. Along with easy access to modified bump-stocks, magazines, suppressors, and armor-piercing ammunition. Using your words,... it's far too easy to 'get a hold' of a gun in the US.

I'll be curious where this pyscho got the gun and ammo. For the Vegas pyscho, we know he was an 'avid' gun-nutjob who amassed a huge arsenal (legally) over many years. But this kid is only 19. Where he got the gun and ammo is a critical question. If it was an illegal transaction...nothing could have been done. However, If it was legal transaction... it's another blow to the 2th Amendment supporters....who seem to think words and principles written in the 1700s, such "a well-regulated militia", are still valid in 2018.

Those defending McCallum based on 'freedom of speech' are missing the point. Government representatives are paid to use confidentiality, logic and integrity when speaking on behalf the country. McCallum's comments lacked all three. He used a personal opinion to seriously undermine the rule of law and the country's international legal obligations. His firing was the first smart move I've seen from Trudeau in a long, long time.

I fully support peaceful protests. As suggested in the vid commentary, many of those causing mayhem are distracting from the movement. France needs to send serious deterrents by jailing rioters for extended periods, taking away their passports (I'll bet some are professional protesters who travel a lot), and forcing them to pay for all damages to property. Whether one agrees with the reason for the protests or not is irrelevant to the principle of maintaining law and order.

The use of cookies during a session is expected...and can be helpful. But everyone should have their browser set to delete all cookies when signing off. For smartphones, it takes 10 seconds to do it manually. AND NEVER ALLOW THIRD PARTY COOKIES! It's mind boggling how many people don't set their browser to either block them or prompt when one is attached to a site. Always click 'never allow'. Third party cookies are essentially spyware.

Hmmm. Comments are allowed on this video but not the one about RCMP removing a First Nations anti-LNG pipeline blockade of public roads and land? The tax-payer funded CBC continues to suppress free speech from those paying their bills. By the way. Great job to the RCMP and Government for removing the illegal blockade. Kudos to CBC for not contributing to misinformation on weather events. Not once did I hear illogical hyperbole to describe the storms. Even better, not once did I hear the standard lies-by-omission used by media when reporting weather events. These include use of words/phrases such as "historic", "worst ever", "all-time" and "record". We only have accurate weather data for about 100 years. And we only have accurate storm-strength data for about 50 years. On a 4.5 billion year old planet. In other words, nothing's truly a 'record' or 'historic'. The media often spread unreasonable fear on weather and climate thru exaggeration and lies-by-omission. In doing so, they feed ignorance.

Another brutal story and tragedy involving people working or travelling in risky parts of the world. In the big picture, I think we're seeing the failure of globalization and a complete inability for certain countries to prevent radicals and religious terrorists from doing whatever they want.

None of this will change until fast food companies are regulated to use proper descriptions for products. For example, Subway should only be allowed to advertise "formed ground chicken loaf" (sounds appetizing hey?) And no company should be allowed to say "100% real chicken" unless there's ZERO plant protein. I don't blame the fast food companies for the lies...I blame the lack of regulations/laws.
