The context of this "emergency" is primarily to give cities and States more access to funding and release certain powers to deal with citizens (as the Governor stated). It's strategic.

You apparently didn't watch the video. Cuomo makes it clear this move isn't to cause panic. He also points out the strategic reasons for declaring an "emergency", including access to federal funds and enhanced powers for State government to deal with citizens.

1:27...So apparently 77 cases out of a population of 20 million is enough to "alarm"?! Nope. The only thing to be alarmed about is the number of people who think the sky is falling.

@Mkmf...We're on the same page, thumbs up. I have other comments in this section making the same point you just made. The Governor's move is more about funding and enhanced powers for Government/law enforcement than anything else. This particular comment of mine is more a criticism of CNN and many who have bought into the alarmist sky-is-falling garbage.

The current data shows a mortality rate of only about 1 to 2% for healthy people. And even among the elderly and those with 'underlying health conditions' the mortality rate is about 3%. While I agree we shouldn't take it lightly, let's be realistic and look at the 97%+ who've fully recovered after catching the virus.

@Alex-xg8py ..Oh the irony of you saying that me "spouting" numbers isn't insightful and can be negligent. My friend...read your original comment again. Slowly. It's the definition of lack of insight and negligence. Numbers matter. Facts matter. Generalizations like those in your original comment contribute to unreasonable fear and panic among the uninformed. That said, we agree 100% that the virus needs to be taken very seriously. Which it is.
