  1. Linda Faraday...so you watched the full speech? That puts you in the minority of this comment section. I'm curious what you thought of the following Trump comments: 1. "The United States will honor the right of every nation in this room to pursue its own customs, beliefs, and traditions. The United States will not tell you how to live or work or worship. We only ask that you honor our sovereignty in return." 2. "With support from many countries here today, we have engaged with North Korea to replace the specter of conflict with a bold and new push for peace." 3. "The sanctions against North Korea will stay in place until denuclearization occurs. 4. "A special thanks to President Moon of South Korea, Prime Minister Abe of Japan, and President Xi of China." 5. "Following my trip to Saudi Arabia last year, the Gulf countries opened a new center to target terrorist financing. They are enforcing new sanctions, working with us to identify and track terrorist networks, and taking more responsibility for fighting terrorism and extremism in their own region." 6. "Thanks to the United States military and our partnership with many of your nations, I am pleased to report that the bloodthirsty killers known as ISIS have been driven out from the territory they once held in Iraq and Syria." 7. "As we see in Jordan, the most compassionate policy is to place refugees as close to their homes as possible to ease their eventual return to be part of the rebuilding process." 8. "We cannot allow the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism (Iran) to possess the planet’s most dangerous weapons. We cannot allow a regime that chants “Death to America,” and that threatens Israel with annihilation, to possess the means to deliver a nuclear warhead to any city on Earth. Just can't do it." 9. "The United States lost over 3 million manufacturing jobs, nearly a quarter of all steel jobs, and 60,000 factories after China joined the WTO. And we have racked up $13 trillion in trade deficits over the last two decades. But those days are over. We will no longer tolerate such abuse." 10 "Canada sucks"... (# 10 is a just kidding, are you still reading). 1 thru 9 are legitimate quotes. Do you still want to criticise the speech?

  4. Patti Cakes...incorrect. Trump's speech was very well received. I'm curious if you're aware of it's full content? The "rest of the world" responded very well to the entire speech and the following Trump quotes: 1. 10. Brenda Larrain....It really appears you didn't watch the full speech? I respect your passion for this issues but also think it's important to get full information and context. For example, Trump definitely didn't "alienate" America's allies in the speech. Here's a SMALL sample of his speech that you won't get on CNN: 1. "The United States will honor the right of every nation in this room to pursue its own customs, beliefs, and traditions. The United States will not tell you how to live or work or worship. 13. Andy Grace ...You make many great points. And you get an internet gold star for being able and willing to have a rational discussion on issues. It's extremely rare. Particularly in a CNN anti-Trump comment section. My key goal with the list of quotes from Trump's speech was to educate people he said many important things and it wasn't just one sentence. I stopped after a small number and could've gone on for pages. Certain media and fake-comedy shows will, of course, focus on negativity and attacking Trump. And one or two sentences of his speech. Worse, they'll lie-by-omission and try to make people think the sky is falling. And many will continue to fall for the propaganda. The nonsensical reaction to the UN speech is similar to the Putin summit. Trump and Putin accomplished many great things. They made progress on issues of critical importance for both countries. And the world. Yet the entire discussion was about one sentence. A dumb mistake by Trump, no question, but it was illogical to ignore the many great accomplishments. Regarding your great insights, I'll stick to the numbering approach: 1. I can't disagree. The US will undoubtedly have to meddle in the affairs of other countries. We've been doing it for hundreds of years. And many who are freaking out at Russia's meddling in our last election are ignoring the fact we've been meddling in foreign elections for decades. Including propaganda, cash payments and support of rebels. Something you'll never hear from some media and fake-comedy shows. 2. We agree. 3. We agree. 4. We agree. 5. I can't disagree. The Saudi situation will continue to be very complex for Presidents. Regardless of who it is. 6. Disagree. The US was integral in lessening ISIL's impact and expansion. And Trump's words and actions (such as dropping the "mother of all bombs") sent a powerful message to them they'd best go back to their caves. 7. We agree. 8. Good points. But I agree with Trump 100% on this one. Iran cannot even think they're going to be able to want death to America and Israel (implied or otherwise) ...and have nuclear weapons. As you point out, it's similar to the North Korea situation. (another major Trump foreign policy success...thus far). 9. You're right. The US has been mostly responsible for the decline of manufacturing, corporate investment, etc. In addition to the reasons you mention, I think poor trade deals and a high corporate tax rates were part of the problem. Trump has made good progress on trade (still a long ways to go) and his significant lowering of the corporate tax rate (plus deregulation and adding other incentives) is leading to very strong levels of investment. Post-2016 numbers are excellent. (the "Trump effect" is real). Which is leading to jobs, spin-offs for small business, etc, etc. Trump's tax reforms will go down as the best legacy from his first term. Lastly, I agree we will "always have a trade deficit". But the question is how large. I like Trump's work thus far addressing the overall issues. Although international trade is supposed to be a win-win, it's far from that for many products. And there's going to be some short term pain for long term gain with respect to Trade. Even some Democrat-aligned unions are supportive of Trump's actions thus far. Again, thanks for your many good points. We may disagree on a few topics but effective discourse is woefully lacking in this vid's comment section. I have a primary comment using the same 9 speech points if you want to continue the chat there.

  14. Since this is a CNN anti-Trump comment section I thought it might be a good idea to provide just a few quotes from Trump's speech that should matter to Americans. The full speech is available on Politico. Read the full speech to get context to the following Trump quotes: 1. Particularly in a CNN anti-Trump propaganda vid. On that theme, I'm curious what do you think of the following quotes from Trump's excellent speech. Its a very small sample so feel free to add to the list: 1. "The United States will honor the right of every nation in this room to pursue its own customs, beliefs, and traditions.
