"The Founding Fathers put impeachment in the Senate knowing it wasn't a legal process but rather a political one."----Chuck Schumer during Clinton's impeachment.

@leeannebishop51 ..He hasn't been charged with a crime. That's your first problem.

Anne Bergeron ...Incorrect. Clinton committed two of the worst crimes possible for a President, perjury and obstruction of justice. Perjury is a felony by the way. And before you say it...what Clinton lied about is completely irrelevant. He broke two oaths when he lied to a Grand Jury. And the Obstruction of Justice conviction involved breach of trust and witness tampering. Which is why his impeachment was fully bi-partisan from start to finish. Conversely, Trump's impeachment doesn't involve a crime and is 100% partisan. Which is why it will go down in history as nothing more than the Democrats abusing Congressional powers and spitting on the Constitution in a lame attempt to influence an election.

John Days ...The point is the hypocrisy of the Democrats. Whenever Schumer talks about legal principles and "fairness" regarding Trump's Senate process, you can literally see the shit dripping out of the corner of his mouth. It's similar to Nadler's hypocrisy...and I quote: "Impeachment is the undoing of an election. We're angry because it rips away our votes"---Jerry Nadler, 1999

Murchad99...Let’s look at the two impeachment articles. 1. “Obstruction of Congress” isn’t even a crime. And worse for the Dems, the charge ignores Constitutional Separation of Power. As both McConnell and Graham have said repeatedly, for the Dems to have a case for this charge in the Senate they would’ve needed the SCOTUS involved in the inquiry. And note that the SCOTUS has been involved in ALL past impeachments. 2. “Abuse of power” also isn’t a crime. It’s a ludicrous charge that ignores Executive Privilege and the President’s basic responsibilities. Moreover, it’s a charge so weak, and so general in nature, that it could be levied against ANY past President. The Dems have made a joke of themselves and forever lowered the bar on impeachment. All in a lame attempt to influence an election.

Christian ..Go watch Graham’s full interview yesterday on Fox. He explains in great detail the difference between the current process and Clinton’s. Most importantly, he points out the witnesses in the Clinton case could not use Executive Privilege, while those the Dems want can (ie Mulvaney and Bolton) This is a critical difference, and one that exposes the Dem’s biggest mistake with their flawed impeachment inquiry: they didn’t go to the SCOTUS to compel witnesses. Bottom line...the Dems screwed up. Their rushed partisan impeachment doesn’t have a crime, abuses Congressional powers, and spits on the Constitution. The Senate cannot, and will not, let them make it worse.

K B...The Impoundment Control Act violation is non criminal. At worst, it’s a political slap on the wrist. What’s very telling is the Dems left it out of the impeachment articles (to my knowledge). Which is either another example of their utter incompetence, or proof of just how minor the violation is. And the Campaign Finance Law story is very old news. Nothing has (or likely will) come from it with respect to Trump getting charged.
