  3. The government, that is we taxpayers, need a WELL educated populace to have a functioning democracy. It's the very foundation of rational civic life. We need it more than a globe-trotting military-industrial-complex because what's to protect if not a democracy? Many other countries actually support higher learning and pay students for the hard work of academic achievement. Our politicians' priorities are upside down and we're rapidly becoming a failed state.
