Just like the Russians did when they finally went into the Donbass to stop the daily Ukrainian shelling, etc. that, to that point, had already killed over 14,000 Russian-speaking civilians there. The people had been begging for their help since the Azov battalion began shelling them in 2015. Russia tried during the ensuing 8 years to stop the slaughter peacefully, but when the Minsk agreements failed Russia finally stepped in and helped the people with humanitarian convoys of needed items and doctors and military defense. There's much more to the story, but that, in a nutshell, is what it's about.
