  5.  @drew6194  Actually, I've studied a LOT of history. And not just from a colonialist perspective. One of my closest friends is a retired history and economics professor who has lived and taught- and been educated- in many countries. His father was a diplomat, his mother deeply involved in social issues of the day. Long ago he taught at Oxford and Cambridge Universities, as well as others where his wanderlust and curiosity took him. Almost daily we discuss the geopolitical events, both of history and current affairs. I've learned more from him than from my huge library because he's been intimately involved. Decades ago, one of my dearest professorial friends was deeply involved in British history. He actually knew Gandhi and was the head of a Pakistani refugee camp during partition. He taught East Indian princes, even. An amazing man. He told me, "US citizens are the most brainwashed people in the world." I'm 74 and continue to be astonished at the ignorance and lack of critical thinking skills of this populace.. You'd think I'd have gotten used to it by now... but it's definitely getting even worse.
