My uncle doesn’t think the warming bit is a hoax but he thinks the ‘crisis’ bit is a scam, synthesised to advance geopolitical power, to control the serfs, through unwarranted fear, and to justify and rationalise uncontrolled, ever increasing debt. He says more and more people are coming to see it like that.

@darkwinter6028 Fewer people are dying from wildfires, drought, hurricanes and heatwaves than ever before. I don’t see how that constitutes a crisis … Not to mention far more die of cold than heat.

Do you have “the mind” for this … A … UK emissions per year = 400 million tons (gov.uk) B … CO2 required to increase global temperature by one degree C = 1 million million tons (IPCC) Divide A by B to get the reduction in global temperature if UK achieved Net Zero. Answer; 0.0004 degrees Centigrade per year. That’s four ten-thousandths of one degree C per year. California is also 0.0004 … Australia 0.0005 degrees C per year. So forgive me if I feel hostile to governments spending trillions of your tax dollars, and mine, and our childrens’ on NetZero … a solution invented by Giant Corporations for a problem invented by Giant Corporations that will empty the jar marked ‘Environment’ into the coffers of Giant Corporations.

Yep … In the past 130 years the global temperature has increased by about 1.3 degrees C. During that 1.3 degree uplift life expectancy has increased from 30 something to 70 something. Agriculture has progressed from feeding 2 billion to feeding 9 billion, GDP per capita has gone up a factor of 7, Literacy has gone up a factor of 4 etc, etc, etc ... basically the greatest flourishing of humankind ever ... Now, they want me to believe the next 1.3 degrees is going to be an unmitigated, catastrophic 'crisis' ...

Thanks for looking at the arithmetic - my arithmetic always needs looking at! The million million tons to generate one degree C, can be found if you Google 'Southampton University Research confirms how global warming links to carbon emissions' and it originates from the IPCC. It's not per day or per year, it's just tons of CO2 per degree C (per planet earth). Clearly it is a ridiculous oversimplification (although that's not how it's presented by the author !). Only 4% of CO2 emissions are anthropogenic, CO2 concentration would be more meaningful than absolute emissions, and we don't really know if CO2 leads, or lags, temperature ... However, emissions is what they beat us up with, so let's go with it. The 400 million tons of UK CO2 emissions is per year. So divide CO2 per year by CO2 per degree C and you get degree C per year. Yes, it makes my head hurt too 😵‍💫... but think of it this way; if it takes 100 bricks to build a house, and we make 4 bricks a year then we make 4/100ths of a house per year. Now swap bricks for tons of CO2 and house for degrees C and put in all the millions. The subject of "hostility" is interesting because we can see many people (aka the 'far right') in the UK, in Ireland, Paris, Germany getting visibly hostile right now. Not about climate, but various other things ... However, the ONLY response from government is "Misinformation"! And this is dutifully echoed by mainstream media with no heterodox view allowed. This, I think, is what makes people angry; ie, the wilful blindness to everything except 'the narrative'. What has that got to do with climate? Well the IPCC is only funded to research anthropogenic climate change. ALL other possible inputs are outside their remit when, clearly there must be dozens of other 'control knobs' that affect global temperature. Their inevitable conclusions are then parroted by the mainstream media unchallenged under the oxymoronic banner of 'settled science'. So there it is again ... wilful blindness to the bigger picture, and, imho, that’s what generates the hostility !

We don’t have “a solution” cuz there isn’t a problem; it is all group think hysteria, and pigs at a trough. But you are right that, tragically, ‘climate’ is taking all the budget from the purse marked Environment.

Climate change cannot possibly be “caused by humans” … It was happening long before humans existed. What you mean, I guess, is climate is influenced by humans.

To No.4 I would add that the ever increasing cost of food due to restricting oil in the name of Net Zero will also introduce famine to millions of people who are currently on a subsistence living. This too, tragically, will become apparent very soon. Of course, they will blame climate change.

@Elmindrida ; Correct. Because, sadly, the Left has adopted an authoritarian, censorious position blocking all heterodox opinion and cancelling anyone who dares speak a counter-narrative. Any opinion, they don’t like is labelled misinformation so they can justify censorship. They’ve even invented a term for valid data and conclusions they don’t like: ‘malinformation”. So they can cancel that too. This control-freaky behaviour strongly suggests, to many of us, ulterior motives. Here’s a thought experiment you can do at home. Imagine a highly respected, climate research group concluded that ‘there is no climate problem, everything will be just fine’. What do think would happen to that report ? We both know it would never get published. Now ask yourself who would bury it, and why?

Cuz it’s all based on unvalidated ‘models’. You can’t validate a climate (or a pandemic) model because you can’t make small perturbations to the input of the real system. Therefore they are unvalidated. Therefore the level of confidence, mathematically speaking, is zero.

Climate has a v e r y long time constant. What we are doing now won’t make any difference for 50 to 100 years. Even then, if Net Zero was achieved in the UK, it would only reduce global temperature by 0.0002 degrees C per year.
