The Climate Change Committee (CCC) estimates reaching the Sixth Carbon Budget pathway to net zero will require the grid to accommodate twice the UK's existing electricity demand: from around 300 TWh today to 610 TWh by 2050 So twice as many cables between pylons, and twice as many between sub-stations and homes. I doubt there is enough copper above ground to actually do this, never mind the engineers and labour required. I don’t see anybody working on it so I suspect the plan is to limit domestic power availability.

We don’t need extra infrastructure because if demand gets too high the electricity suppliers can use smart meters to limit the power delivered to domestic users. Hence the push for everybody to get smart meters.

1:01 Correct “the National Grid cannot meet current demand” … Whether the pun is intended, or not, that is the actual problem. Twice as many cables are required for Net Zero electrical current demand. (That’s just for the EVs and heat pumps). The existing cables will melt under the load. The government ‘plan’ is to limit domestic power delivery with smart meters - which is why they want everybody to have one.

We are stuck with the internet now. If it went off-line, for whatever reason, supermarkets couldn’t function, electricity would go off so water would go off, gas would go off, fuel stations wouldn’t work. After a week it would never come back on again and anybody who couldn’t defend themselves would be food !

@zetectic7968 ; The Climate Change Committee (CCC) estimates reaching the Sixth Carbon Budget pathway to net zero will require the grid to accommodate twice the UK's existing electricity demand: from around 300 TWh today to 610 TWh by 2050. How are they going to do that ? The existing grid will literally melt.

Government are not really that incompetent … They have a plan. They are just not telling you what it is because the only way the existing grid can meet Net Zero power demand is by using smart meters to limit domestic power supply. That’s why they are pushing smart meters.

@alan2007-x8x “infrastructure insufficiencies” 😂 The Climate Change Committee (CCC) estimates reaching the Sixth Carbon Budget pathway to net zero will require the grid to accommodate TWICE the UK's existing electricity demand: from around 300 TWh today to 610 TWh by 2050 So twice as many cables between pylons, and twice as many between sub-stations and homes. I suspect Scotland sells all its surplus electricity to England …

Even if you could make the juice you couldn’t transmit it to homes - unless you double the number of cables; between pylons, and from sub-stations to homes. I seriously doubt there is enough copper on the market to actually do that ! Nor is there enough engineers and labour to do it. But ‘somehow’ Net Zero is going to happen - yeh, right.
