@Redf322 I’m sure there are many definitions - ask 2 professors and no doubt you’ll get 3 answers ! So please refer to the encyclopaedia of your choice. My point is that any definition of fascism will, I suggest, include suppression of all political opposition.

Correct. Even if you broaden that definition to include people alive today who would have been fascist in 1945 there is still an essential element missing: That is total suppression of all political opposition. There are a few examples currently around that meet the spec’ - Trump isn’t one of them.

@flakieflake9616 ; What I mean is that eliminating the political opposition is an ‘essential attribute’ of fascism. ie, If a regime does NOT eliminate the opposition, one way or another, then it is not fascist.

It’s ironic that the best thing that could have happened for Trump was to loose in 2020. If he’d just got over the line in 2020 he would have been hamstrung by republican never-trumpers and a weak result with no popular vote etc … Whereas now, he can really let rip. RFK Jr. just came out of a meeting with Trump and reportedly said he was “shocked” at what Trump has planned !!!

@alexdavis1541 … Blair was ideological - but he wasn’t fascist. Ditto Thatcher. Neither illegalised political opposition … In fact they fed off it … Therefore they were not fascistic.
