All these coal towns died decades ago when American industry moved overseas.

When I was interested in buying the empty lot next to my house in Mckeesport, it was listed as $500. However once i attempted to purchase said lot, they jacked the price to $5000, so now it sits abandoned and overgrown.

I remember watching WKRP in Cincinnati as a child and thinking that it was a pretty good sized city. I guess it was at one point. You should try Cleveland next.

I watched this whole thing, and knowing even worse parts of Mckeesport that you missed in your video, (I live in Mckeesport, you actually drove past my house), I still think we have the worst town in America.

It was built on the backs of non-renewable resources, and the resources ran out. Most rural areas in the north were built on coal and timber, neither of which are economically, or environmentally feasible anymore. Mechanization eliminated the labor requirements, and progress ended the need for the materials. No jobs, no money, no people.

All of these houses were originally owned by people who had good paying jobs. All those jobs were exported, and those who could, fled. Low income families were all that was left, and this is the end result. Poverty leads to desperation, crime, and blight. Why would I want my tax dollars going to rebuild this, for it to happen again? This will all rebuild itself when PEOPLE have the money to do so.

All the areas around Pittsburgh suffered the same fate when the mills closed. No jobs, no money. Those who could, left, those that were left were retired, and when they died, the property became vacant.

Tourism fueled Florida. Once industry left the rust belt, no one vacations anymore.

Most of it still looks better than Mckeesport 😂👍

The "governet" didn't send the jobs overseas, CEO's looking to ever increase quarterly profits to appease Wall St. and support their own outrageous salaries sent the jobs overseas.

You should check out their Mckeesport video

Why invest in property thats only losing value, or you dont own? Might as well rock a fat whip😉

They do. Mckeesport is used for many films and TV shows. American Rust being the latest.

Crime is mostly in the projects. Crawford Village, Highview, and Harrison Village. Rest of the town is mostly abandoned. Only 2-3 houses per street are habitable, more or less.

I remember going down to Gun Hill Rd in the Bronx in the early 90's and it wasn't this bad

No industry, no jobs, no money. This is what "Free Trade" and "Right to Work" gets us. One step closer to a third world country.

I live on Shaw Ave in Mckeesport. Most of my block is still lived in and kept up. He actually rides up my block at the 20:05 mark.
