  1. Another consideration in the lack of evolutionary pressure for dark skin: skin cancer. Cave fish have no need for vitamin D from insolation, yet have lost pigmentation because it's not a selective advantage. Put more succinctly, white skin in a lower latitude is a liability, not so much in the north.
