Because they lack a capacity for shame, corrupt persons must be met with the consequences of their criminality. Otherwise, crime continues and grows. This is the "broken window" theory of law enforcement. Tolerating crime encourages crime.

Unfortunately, self-appointed eco freaks have captured politicians with their hysteria and lack of understanding about the sources of carbon dioxide. Some seem to desire the end of a modern standard of living even as they enjoy it.
