Amazing. Neanderthal population estimates and interbreeding hybrid population is very interesting. Oase1 is especially fascinating given his 6-9% Neanderthal DNA with many introgressed variants for Neanderthal blood antigens, pigmentation, facial features and metabolism for cold climates. Studies combining ecological modeling and genetic analysis suggest that the total Neanderthal population at any given time likely ranged between 10,000 and 70,000 individuals across their entire range. A commonly cited estimate, based on work by researchers like Jean-Pierre Bocquet-Appel and Svante Pääbo, hovers around 50,000 during stable climatic periods.

Likely related to Omo 1 site, falsely claimed to be 200,000 years old. 9,000 years old, found on the ancient lakeshore of Lake Turkana.

I find it hard to believe an arboreal creature was hairless. Ouch!

@Omega-g3i Omo 1 is on the ancient shore of Lake Turkana when the lake was 60 metres higher around 9,000 years ago and the lake flooded a vast area to the north of the current lake. Whether the Omo 1 fossil was found on the surface or in Situ is conflicted by different scientists who were on the expedition. Leakey says "partially in situ" but doesn't say what was in situ and what was not, while others from the expedition say it was a surface find, rendering any dating of the soils it was found on top of incompatible.

Higher testosterone levels could cause advanced arthritis seen in some Neanderthals aged 40-50 years old, as well as high protein diets.

@NORTH02 'A fossil human humerus from Khvalynsk: Morphology and taxonomy' March 2010 Archaeology Ethnology and Anthropology of Eurasia This author has done some research on the theory that Neanderthals had high testosterone levels based on their bone density.

Steinheim Skull is interesting. Is it Heidelbergensis?

I wonder if they wiped out the European Jaguar as well

This is the reason that Humanoids are found in Wallacea but Orangutangs are not.

Loved Debunking the notion that Ancient Man was a Noble Savage. If the gracile modern face is very ancient what does this mean for Jebel Irhoud skull?
