  15. Huge driftwood logs would have been all over the beaches in ancient times and simple to carve compared to a green tree. Driftwood would be harder than bamboo but much more durable and practical. I don't know if a bamboo raft is practical on the ocean. Driftwood logs were used by the Polynesians in the past as well because nature has already done much of the work for you.
