  1. It has bright sides, but only because the society has degraded so much into darkness. "Single mothers can provide for their children through sex services" isn't really a good thing, it shouldn't have gotten to that point. That's why no politician can ever try to fix the social problems Japan is facing, none of them are proposing to follow a moral compass that will fix things.

It indicates a high level of collectivism, but low level of compassion. It's like being worried about homeless people's well-being, but not care about any particular homeless person they pass by on their way to work.

  5. People should drop the professional victimhood act already. Would you be less offended if they asked "where's your family from?" That's what they mean when they ask "where are you really from." They're curious about your family history. They're not questioning your citizenship status. Just respond with "my parents/grandparents came from X, Y, Z", no need to make it awkward.

  6. It's not the genitals that dishonored "Shibuya Kaho." It was herself, by being a prostitute. Nobody is going to identify her by her genitalia, it's her face, her voice, her name, etc that will expose her to the scrutiny of society. Good luck trying to sue members of an industry controlled by criminal organizations. Yeah, they broke your contract by distributing the uncensored footage, but that didn't violate your privacy or dishonor you; that happened when you became a whore, not when your genitalia was published uncensored.

  7. I always had the impression SK had a deep need to absorb some modern culture, but never quite sure on how much of it to embrace. Kpop is very peculiar, in how it attempts to merge the cute side of Jpop, with erotic elements from Western pop, even though pornography is illegal. I'd expect some traditions to have been more similar in the past, before the US reformed both nations, since there's so much cross-pollination (and wars) between the China-Japan-Korea trio since forever. The part about Japan requiring more bureaucracy... those South Koreans will be in for a surprise when the centralized information system is down for a day. "Paperless" just means you're out of luck when the computer fails. I wonder if they ever weighted in the compromise between fully automated convenience, and the danger of a catastrophic single point of failure.

Japan today would be like North Korea, had the US not completely crushed the previous regime and colonized it with a Western constitution that brought you unprecedented peace and prosperity, while maintaining your sovereignty. Not a single other nation in history got such a sweet deal, after losing a war they started. It's easy to wander into ridiculous theories, "what-if" when you ignore historical facts. The two nukes might as well have been the outcome with the least civilian deaths, considering how vulnerable Japanese cities were to incendiary carpet bombings. They were not very military effective, but instantly demoralized the high command into surrender. So you have a choice: let the past go, because you didn't commit the crimes of your ancestors, and the Americans today didn't commit the crimes of their ancestors; or whine about oppression of past generations, and face the consequences of all the twisted crimes your ancestors committed.
