He said "we should remove unsigned integers, only have signed types", openly in a C++ conference a few years ago. Everyone in the audience was confused, and thought he was joking at first. Andrei Alexandrescu was the one that openly confronted him and said "you can remove unsigned integers over my dead body."

They have to show to ISO that it's open to the entire industry that wants to support said standard. Otherwise we will reverto to having a dozen incompatible flavors of C++. Back in the day, we had Borland C++, Microsoft C++, CodeWarrior C++, GNU C++, Symantec C++, ... it wasn't fun.

When he stopped receiving money from his family, he latched on to Engels, still acting just as demanding (you can find a letter from Marx insisting Engels to not be late with paying his rent.) And yes, Karl Marx outright wrote, on his "On The Jewish Question" book, that Jews would not be allowed to continue existing after the global Communist revolution takes place. He also claimed that the real god of the Jews is "Capital", and therefore their religion is really "Capitalism", not "Judaism." The term "Capitalism" is an antisemitic epithet.

  32. This is just a marketing stunt to prop up their AI product. The goal is to sell it to governments to monitor and control their populations. Not only do they need these government contracts to make fat cash, they also need legal immunity for all sorts of crimes they're committing and facilitating (copyright, fraud, etc.) By making it seem like the very core infrastructure of the web depends on their AI product, it (as well as its owners) must be protected from liability at all costs.

For years he has been proposing gutting some language elements out of C++, that would immediately make C++ code less optimized. Removal of unsigned integers, removal of relaxed atomic operations, enforcing sequencing of nonsensical operations. Microsoft also has a commercial product language, called C#, that is marketed as being a "C++ killer language." Google funds a lot of the works of the WG21, has many of their engineers "volunteering" in higher positions of the group. Google's C++ compiler (Clang) is mainly developed by the same guy that spend the past 3~4 years now promoting a commercial product language, called Carbon, that is marketed as being a "C++ killer language." Recently, Intel threw away their own in-house C++ compiler, and switched to one that's based on Google's C++ compiler. Intel is one of the main sources of funds for the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC). These are the 3 main C++ (and C) compilers: MSVC, Clang and GCC. Intel's compiler would be the 4th. Just follow the money, these working groups (for both C and C++ languages) are funded mostly by corporations that showed financial interest in killing these languages, to promote their own products.

  41. The ISO organization doesn't care much about how each group is run. The WG21 is run by "volunteers", most of tem are employees of big corporations with a big stake on the subject. The chair of the C++ committee is Herb Sutter, a Microsoft engineer, he's definitely responsible for this fiasco. He's been trying to sabotage C++ for years, trying to get rid of unsigned integer, impose sequencing of operations to kill compiler optimizations, and get rid of high-performance atomic operations (because in the future, somebody might build a CPU where the optimized versions are not needed anymore.)

  45. The functional word is "first", which is the myth. Electrical engineers were already using the term "bug" to refer to malfunctions, before computers. Thomas Edison used the term in 1878, to describe a mechanical malfunction. Obviously computers had bugs since computers were first invented. Plenty of mechanical and electrical machines had bugs caused by real bugs before that, as it's often bad wen insects (or rats) get crushed or cooked inside machines, and start leaking fluids.

I'm pretty sure Herb Sutter, the chair of the C++ Standards Committee (also works for Microsoft) made the fake offer in an attempt to save face precisely because a lot of people within the committee are upset. This is a clear case of sabotage, and Herb is an accomplice, Bjarne is an enabler. Anyone offended by trivialities should be kicked out summarily and permanently.

It just means the industry adopted the standard, as opposed to a government-mandated standard like the Metric or Imperial System, or food standards. C# is a proprietary industry standard, while C++ is an open industry standard.
