I think they both have a point. Polygamy isn't for everyone. You have to be very confident, financially stable, and able to work well with others; three qualities very few people have, especially all at once. To consider polygamy means you first need to ensure you're married, and your current marriage itself is stable. Once you have that you have shown you have the confidence to take care of a spouse, the finance to ensure you can support each other, and the the teamwork to overcome marital problems. It's only after this would I consider polygamy.
With that said I find polygamy is fine. Of the married polygamist families I met, the most successful ones mastered the key things that also make monogamous marriages work too. In truth, to manage a polygamist marriage requires the same skill set as a monogamous one. And int he end the children from those families come out just like any other kid. Most of them report it's like living with a aunts and a bunch of cousins. They all go to school, they all are raised well, and enter adulthood just as normal people.
The only type polygamist that are universally disliked is the FLDS. This is because they don't make polygamy an option, it's forced. And if you are polygamist in their community you must adhere to their rules and only marry who they see fit. Most polygamist agree that their not really polygamist, that the FLDS is actually just a cult. I'm glad media is discussing polygamy and separating it from the FLDS. Because most polygamous families are nothing like them at all.
