Like you, anyone with experience with radio control models is well aware of the downsides and volatility of pouch cells which is why I was shocked when finding out dewalt is now using them. There's a reason tool manufacturers use cylindrical cells, yes there's gruntier options available but cylindrical cells are the most robust and I'll be honest, I'm a heavy equipment mechanic, my tools get a VERY hard life, borderline abused. It's just the nature of the beast.

Deftones Dsm Completely spot on, A cool video but as an engineer was quite frustrated watching it, there are so many variables at play that the results are meaningless. Personally lower outside head/block temp ain't always a good thing. Is the slick50 helping by reduced friction or is it interfering with the oils ability to absorb and transfer heat to the block/head like it's suppose to? The cooler running engine could simply be running richer, ignition timing wrong, the control factors are endless.

@Powerpickle68 To be fair the charge curve for li ion is basically the same as lipo. Only thing you have to be careful with is some cylindrical cells have a 3.6v nominal and 4.1v charge/max voltage where as lipos are generally 3.7v nominal and 4.2v charge/max voltage so you'll never going to harm lipos charging them on a li-ion charge curve. The curve for all lithium batteries is just CC/CV

John Herlstein Yup, the problem is they sell a 'make a quick buck' solution to LONG term problems, unless you undertake a personal and scientific 8 year long term test to prove these snake oil products (let's face it, who's ever going too) they will keep selling. I believe in good quality oil and change it more frequently and that's it, everything else is snake oil. My personal favourite is the 'engine restore in a can' 😉 www.enginerestore.co.uk - it's laughable.

As ive always understood sugar in fuel doesnt cause engine internal damage, it just clogs the filters and gums up the fuel system.

@johng4527 I've been using lipos for years too on an extensive rc car collection and I've never had one personally fail either but I have seen the aftermath of when they do. I do take extremely good care of mine though, always charge to 4.15/4.17 volts rather than 4.2, always balance, storage charge ect. There is no debate that when lipos fail it is generally far more catastrophic then a cylindrical cell - it's enivitable due to the insane peak currents lipos can deliver for their cell size. There is also no debate that lipo pouch cells are easier to damage then cylindrical cells. If I accidentally treated one of my rc lipos like my dewalt tool batteries it'd be discharged to 0V and put in the bin. To each their own bud, but in my application I'll be giving them a miss 👍

@2009dudeman I crushed a brand new 9ah flexvolt battery between a forklift mast and the chassis - it was on my work lamp and forget it was there and tilted the mast back - CRUNCH! 😂 Cracked the casing all the way round but it still works. If it was lipo I would have expected it to catch fire their and then being fully charged and I never would have trusted it again if it didn't.

@johng4527 Actually, the dewalt batteries don't. They are the one tool brand where the low voltage cut off is built into all the tools themselves, not the batteries. This is why with dewalt batteries you have to be very careful with the aftermarket adapters you can buy to use them with other brands/use them as a power supply. Why would I want to run them down to 0v anyway? I was referring to my rc lipos when I suspect one is faulty - I put a 100ohm resistor across the battery plug.

@johng4527 Apparently so, I shit you not. I suppose their only 'technically' capable of being used with their tools so makes no difference where the low voltage cut off is. Wanted to power a portable 12v fridge with a flexvolt and buck converter but found out I've got to integrate a low voltage cut off circuit it in (no big deal). As far as I know its only dewalt who do it that way.

Good old STP, 😂 There's a reason we nicknamed it 'Shitty Toilet Paper' here in the UK 🇬🇧. Only good for bodging a knocking engine to sell/auction a car. Zddp had been greatly reduced in all motor oils as although an incredible antiwear additive, it overtime poisons the catalytic converter.

Not a single 'real' drill bit in the test though...
1
@markmarkw1919 I would too, dont get me wrong. Drill bits from the likes of Walther, Presto, Dormer and Guhring for example can be brought at reasonable prices if you shop around.

@ProjectFarm Sorry, was suppost to only be a tounge in cheek comment 😉. Would be interesting to see the difference with 'proper' machinist level drill bits though.

Methanol/nitromethane needs far less oxygen to burn efficiently compared to gasoline, it's why you needed to 'choke' the carb, it was just running too lean. This is why it's used in dragsters for huge power output, you can burn a huge amount of fuel for the same volume of air in the cylinder. Rejet the carb and watch the engine self destruct! 😂
