  1. ​ @tommyknight9404 Thing is, that pocket mirror glued in place might not actually be a MOT fail - if that mirror provides adequate visibility (testers opinion) and is secure (a lot of mirror glasses are glued on) it may well be a pass.

I have to add the part about the test station not being allowed to let you drive the car away is completely wrong - there is literally nothing any garage/mot station can do to stop you driving the vehicle away (and rightly so) If your cars failed the the MOT for a dangerous defect that will however will be instantly uploaded onto the national database and any NPR cameras (Number plate recognition) whether they be road side or on a police car pick the vehicle up and you're going to be in trouble with the police quickly. Basically you cant LEGALLY drive the vehicle on the road but the MOT station cant refuse to hand tour keys back and keep the vehicle hostage until its repaired. Its the police's job to enforce the law - not the MOT station. The the only thing the MOT station could do is call the police.

  4. I lot of european heavy haulage trucks use a transmission called a ZF Transmatic which is a 16 speed manual with a clutch but also a torque converter in front as well. Kind of gives the best of all worlds. Got your multiple manual gear choices but also have the torque multiplication effect of the torque converter and the ability to do smooth, low speed manoeuvring without using the clutch.
