  1. When this happend I don't think anyone really had a clue what would happen. The nuclear industry had never delt with a accident of this magnitude so possible outcomes were theories being tossed around. Let's face it, no one up to then had to deal with the prospect of 'what would happen' if a 100tonnes of molten nuclear fuel entered a large body of water. Scientist were probably just trying to constantly calculate 'worst case scenario' at the time - mistakes were made obviously.
