Zone 1 flammable atmosphere + static electricity = boom

@Thunder-acro Humans joking about incredibly traumatic events is often a coping mechanism - gallows humour.

@willamestrada1121 Those fines are not intended to be compensation for victims, they are purely a fiscal punishment for the company. Compensation for victims is settled separately in civil court or criminal court if appropriate.

@shredditsbiking 60%? Not trying to call you out bud but I'm genuinely interested to know the source you got this from. Normally you get cancer from things like this from chronic exposure, not one off acute exposure.

@NVtheGT Yup, and if they'd bothered to attach grounding straps to the IBC as you're supposed to he could have wiped with that paper towel all he wanted.

I don't know why, but that fireman whos asked to give someone oxygen that just responds without hesitation "10-4" gets me everytime.

@Raptorman0909 You attach grounding straps to the plastic totes (or IBC's). Using a plastic tote is not the issue, it's not following standard industry practices that gets you. If everything's grounded no static charge can build up, everything's at the same electrical potential.
1
@Raptorman0909 That's not strictly true, if the plastic was anti static it wouldn't need grounding straps at all - the charge can't accumulate. If the plastic isn't anti static and is capable of accumulating a charge that would pass to you or an object if it touched, it can be discharged through a grounding straps.

@Raptorman0909 Nope, your wrong.

No it's, it's why you don't get a cloth and start polishing a polyethylene tank when flammable liquids are dispensing/mixing. Flammable liquids have to be mixed all the time 🤷♂️

It's a flash fire, not a detonation like a stick of dynamite, it happens quick but there isn't that much force behind it, the interior of the ibs absorbed most of it.

Because anti-static plastics are not as simple as you think. To make something anti-static you basically have to make it electrically conductive to a degree. The only way you can do that is to mix something conductive with the plastic like carbon black or metal powder trouble is your container isn't translucent anymore (with carbon black) so you can't see how much is in it visually. Things like metal powders would have a lot of compatibility problems with the chemicals being stored in them. Also, if the surface the container is standing on isn't electrically referenced to ground it'll still build static. There is no issue with these types of containers of the proper procedures are followed - ground bonding both containers before transferring liquids.

@Thunder-acro Try it some time, it's actually quite healthy, especially if your the person that something traumatic has happened to. You can't spend your life 'mourning' or being outraged all the time - that IS incredibly unhealthy.

No, but he did brighten up everything around him 😂

Static is the issue. If both containers are electrically bonded to ground/earth you can wipe up spills all you want. They're supposed to use cables that clamp on to the containers that are attached to earth.
