  1. Your analysis is too premature. Labeling someone a coward, especially someone in law enforcement, is a serious allegation my friend. I'm guessing nowhere in the job description does it say a police officer must be willing to die in the line of duty. Your problem is equating self preservation (a powerful, natural instinct we all have) with cowardice.

  2. Police mentality is NEVER to retreat from a situation, as it would show weakness. And the officer had no idea if the suspect was armed or not. Her actions were justified...although Mercurio's apparent misogyny may have played a part in his demise, as she may have taken it personally.
