  1. Isn't the "greater fool theory" the foundation for all trade in our society (i.e., the hope that you can sell something for more than you acquired it)? This goes for gold, bitcoin, and all other tangible or non-tangible assets (e.g., real estate, collectibles, etc.).

  2.  @gerharddanner2038  I understand that. I'm just talking about the primal motivation for investing in the first place. The greater fool theory is the hope that someone, acting in their own self interest(s), will pay a certain price point for something with the hopes of selling it for a profit to someone else. Thanks.
