@devilpig6 Regrettably, I agree with you. There are many citizens in the U.S. that have, for one reason or another, failed to participate in the American Dream, or who believe it is being taken away from them by foreigners. Trump offered them a panacea and promised to take us back to isolationist days in the early 1800's. Instead of looking inwardly at their own shortcomings, laziness, and incompetence, Trump said it's not their fault they have been left behind, but rather it's the invasion of people from Mexico, Asia, and the middle east that are taking away American jobs. There will be a reckoning taking place soon.

@devilpig6 I agree. It seems like the only time we are united as a country is when we are faced with a common enemy, such as after 9/11. Otherwise, there is nothing "United" about these states we live in. I don't know if its geographic, or cultural, or whatever, but there seems to be a deep divide, a deep schism, between different regions of this country. People from the Bible Belt States, or Rust Belt States, will have a different set of values from someone living in New York, California, or some other progressive state. As for the events that occurred at the capital building a few days ago, I think the media played a big part in feeding the flames by suggesting our democracy was in eminent danger because of a bunch of rogue, disorganized anarchists wearing MAGA hats, stealing podiums and furniture. Last summer's "peaceful" protestors across the country caused much more of a threat to society, and destroyed more property and businesses, than what happened last week. Yet the media narrative remains the same. Donald Trump is not so much a person as he was an idea or concept, a manifestation of years of frustration at our politicians and the desire to rid ourselves of the status quo. His defeat will only create a vacuum which will be filled with someone more despotic than him, I'm afraid. I really don't know what the answer is. Perhaps once we have distributed the covid vaccine, and the economy re-opens, things will start to improve. I hope.
