  2. He did not catch the HR ball. He caught the ball after it was tossed into the stands. Difference. As for the ball itself, it looks like any other ball and needs to be authenticated before leaving the stadium---unless MLB used specially-marked baseballs for this at-bat.

  3.  @xh3598  My guess is the Dodgers/MLB used a batch of specially marked baseballs for this AB. Either way, Dodgers are a classless organization that loves taking advantage of their fans. They tried to strong-arm the couple who caught Shohei's 1st HR as a dodger a few months ago, so...

  4.  @airtioteclint  You could be right. Authentication is key. No collector or investor will pay any significant amount of money unless there is solid provenance or proof they have the bonafide product. I suppose the phone video helps, but if the Dodgers refuse to authenticate the ball (as they threatened to do with Shohei's first HR ball a few months ago), then the ball will probably lose all of its value. No offense to the guy who caught it, but what's to keep him from grabbing a substitute ball (even though, in either case, the real ball will lose its value regardless)...
