Typical with so many. "Gangs" in America that we know today (last 20 years until now) are primarily from a need for protection in prisons. There were a few minorities and they had to stick together for protection. Mostly poor kids were recruited because they saw the money and power the older members had and in big cities they had protection on the street. Now it seems they just think it's cool and edgy. Instead of dying their hair, wearing all black, getting tattoos, getting piercings or joining the military to piss off their parents and be different like kids used to do they join a gang in smaller cities and rural areas. I know there's a lot more to it but none of these kids have been incarcerated and have been around real gang members. So sad and I wish we could put more resources into providing better outlets and skills for these kids. They just gotta know there's so many better ways!!
