@slangster233 yes of course, because human progress is like instant coffee -- just add hot water & stir.

@andrejota1151 yes, Tim Cook or Musk or any CEO does operate like an authoritarian. Within certain parameters, they call the shots. But a country is not a corporation. In a corporation, if the employees or customers are unhappy with the decisions made by management, they can simply leave & the corporation will ultimately fold. Citizens of a country can't do that. That is why they can demand a say in how the leaders run the country.

@mikska uh, no, the "people of Donbas" were not unarmed. They were supported & armed by Russia. And they overran the Ukrainian military posts & stole their weapons. THAT was documented in the 1st season of Vice's "Russian Roulette" series. It on my Ukraine playlist. Flight MH17 and Russia's 'little green men' "In Donbass, Russia’s approach was characterised by lending implicit support to separatist forces, while depicting them as a bottom-up, local rebellion. This kind of “hybrid warfare” blurs the boundaries between state-controlled regular armed forces and the rogue local and mercenary forces. This strategy was viable owing to the porous border between the Donbass region and Russia (the demarcation of the Ukrainian-Russian border has long been opposed by Russia), easy transportation routes and ready volunteers within and from beyond Ukraine. However, it was noticeable that the top commanders of the various self-proclaimed republics were Russian citizens from Moscow – such as Alexander Borodai and Igor Strelkov – the last one with extensive military experience in various hotspots in post-communist Europe."

@andrejota1151 I don’t follow -- what's "consistency" & "WM"? Country & Westminster? If you meant the country should be run the same way, I already explained why it would not be a good idea. Also, that's basically authoritarianism. And keep in mind, it isn't always a better option -- a point @peterbennett7176 made earlier in the thread.

@mikska as for Kyiv's response, they did what any country would do when armed rebels take over government facilities. What was Putin's response to Chechnya when they attempted to break away?

@tatianalyulkin410 apparently Kremlin interference in Ukrainian national interests is okay, but when the majority of Ukrainians want nothing to do with their Kremlin imperialist masters, ruzzia gets upset.

@jessez8503 I was in the exact same position. I grew up in East Africa. As a teen I was very sympathetic to the Israeli cause. It was only after I moved to the West & was exposed to the realities faced by the Palestinians that my thinking evolved.

What a muppet regurgitating Kremlin propaganda. Ukraine was not democratic because they had a coup? They had a coup because the putin sock puppet president went back on his promises to begin procedures to join the EU & instead cozied up to his puppet master in ruzzia. How many elections were held in Ukraine after he ran off to hide behind Putin's skirts? That "8 years of bombing Donbas" is another load of horsesh1t. What does any country do when rebels forcibly take over a territory? What did putin do when Chechnya tried to break away?

@user-ti5rb1mx5x yes, of course, you know better. Can't have people going against your brainwashing narrative now, can we ...

@daves465 the Palestinians who have lived in that area for generations have a right to the territory that was designated as their homeland. The reason for this mess is they were never given any security guarantees by the colonial powers. And when they resisted the foreign settlers, they were in no position to defend their land. The colonial powers only guaranteed Israel security & allowed the state of Israel to bully their way into expanding their occupation.
1
@daves465 that was a bad faith deal. If there are 2 parties, you can't make a deal with 1 & leave the other twisting in the wind.
1
@daves465 would you roll over if some foreign power came into your area & started divvying it up for some people from another part of the world?

@daves465 dude, try that gaslighting on someone who doesn't have a clue. "The 1948 Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine" Ilan Pappé
