  1. If Germany wants to curb Putin they must choose between "being green" & being energy independent. Being green thru reliance on Russian energy is putting a noose around your neck & handing the trapdoor lever control to Putin. In the short term, going independent (using whatever means --coal, nuclear, etc) may put us behind on the climate agenda, but it at least allows for time to work on longterm green solutions that do not rely on Russia. This same principle applies to the western reliance on China for manufacturing. To paraphrase: Capitalism has indeed sold their adversaries the rope with which they will be hanged. It's way past time that western governments wake up to this reality & take action before it's too late.
