  1. Maybe when they get too big, they should take the Berkshire approach & buy the whole company or a majority stake rather than investing incrementally.

  2. Depends on the stocks or group of stocks on which you're buying the dip. If it's a diversified fund, then buying the dip is OK. If it's a concentrated fund that was horrendously overpriced to begin with, then a 50% or 70% drop from the high may still be overpriced. Some of the sector funds & tech stocks of the dot com era never recovered & were acquired for pennies on the dollar -- or simply went away. If you bought the dip on those, you would have taken a beating.

  3. Use a stop. I say that & yet there's many a time I don't use one & then kick myself later.
