@beforeyourimmigrants8471 paid off to end the occupation? Are you dense? LMFAO

Bullsh*t. The withdrawal was based on the Afghan forces taking control. Instead they walked off. However, I would still blame the Pentagon for not having anticipated & prepared for this as an outcome.

@nathansandberg3390 Biden is to blame, but don't whitewash the sh1t sandwich he was handed by his predecessor. "The Trump administration in February 2020 negotiated a withdrawal agreement with the Taliban that excluded the Afghan government, freed 5,000 imprisoned Taliban soldiers and set a date certain of May 1, 2021, for the final withdrawal. And the Trump administration kept to the pact, reducing U.S. troop levels from about 13,000 to 2,500, even though the Taliban continued to attack Afghan government forces and welcomed al-Qaeda terrorists into the Taliban leadership."

@beforeyourimmigrants8471 by that logic, Trump was paid off too. Because the deal goes back to 2018 when he secured the release of the current Taliban leader from a Pakistani jail. @abdiea4821 - can you tell us the date of those torture scenes?

It's the Intelligence & Pentagon's fault. But Trump also created the conditions for this failure. In 2018 his administration secured the release of the current Taliban leader from a Pakistani jail. Then they made deals with the Taliban without including the Afghan government. This was a recipe for failure.

Tom Mix the withdrawal of troops was based on handing over control to the Afghan government. So there was no cause to evacuate the citizens. Yes it was a failure but that is an Intelligence failure.

@Georgieboy1776 hmm, I wonder where you got that from ... 25 Jul 2021 US vows continued air support for Afghan forces fighting Taliban: Top US military commander says air raids will continue to assist Afghan forces amid sweeping Taliban offensive "The United States will continue to carry out air raids in support of Afghan forces, a senior US military commander has said, amid an increase in attacks by the Taliban ahead of the withdrawal of US and other international troops from Afghanistan. The Taliban have won a string of battlefield victories in recent weeks as US-led foreign forces are about to complete their pull-out after 20 years in the country US President Joe Biden had earlier pledged that all US troops would be out of Afghanistan by September 11 – the 20-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks – but later moved the deadline up to the end of August. “The United States has increased air strikes in support of Afghan forces over the last several days and we’re prepared to continue this heightened level of support in the coming weeks if the Taliban continue their attacks,” US Marine General Kenneth McKenzie said during a news conference in the capital Kabul on Sunday. McKenzie, who leads the US Central Command, declined to say whether US forces would continue air raids after the end of their military mission on August 31."

@Georgieboy1776 - and what is your source of this information? I find it's the opposite: U.S. Intensifies Airstrikes in Afghanistan as Taliban Offensive Nears Kandahar About a dozen strikes are aimed at slowing a Taliban surge, aiding a beleaguered Afghan military -- WSJ July 25, 2021 Pentagon: US Airstrikes in Afghanistan 'Having an Effect' on Taliban -- VOA, August 10, 2021 U.S. Airstrikes in Afghanistan Could Be a Sign of What Comes Next American forces have stepped up a bombing campaign, but the White House and the Pentagon insist these are the final days of combat support --NYT, Aug 3

@Georgieboy1776 - "rapid withdrawal of our troops"? How many troops did we have in Afghanistan on January 20, 2021?

@danlevan6138 I agree this is about execution. But the overall failure & the fall of the Afghan government & its forces was baked in since 2018 when the US administration brokered a release of the current Taliban leader from a Pakistani jail. They later continued negotiations with the Taliban without including the current Afghan government. "The Trump administration in February 2020 negotiated a withdrawal agreement with the Taliban that excluded the Afghan government, freed 5,000 imprisoned Taliban soldiers and set a date certain of May 1, 2021, for the final withdrawal. @beforeyourimmigrants8471 that's even more nonsensical than the original premise. Adjust your tinfoil hat.

@deplorablelibertarian Trump's plan was metered & gradual? Are you high or are you spouting alternative facts?
