  1. kazooga 1234 Actually, a lot of private unions put their companies out of business (see: GM and UAW). Regardless, anyone can legally start a private union. That's perfectly moral.  Public unions are immoral as well as an oxymoron. Public servants agree to serve the public at a price the public is willing to pay for this 'free' service - like 'free' education. Therefor they do not need a union - as they don't work for a profit making corporation, they work for the public. The reason why only Public Unions exist is because they have to bankrupt the cites, states and eventually the nation itself before they go away. As an example, see: Detroit.  In Detroit Government Teachers are paid 2-3 times the average pay, get wonderful benefits, wonderful medical insurance, insanely awesome vacation time off, pensions, and negotiated a bonus 13th month paid in full. While at the same time only 1 in 3 students bothers to graduate and of that 1/3 about 50% are functionally illiterate. See? A private company would have went bankrupt decades ago. But, Government Institutions don't go bankrupt until the city goes under (See: Detroit). Thus Unions LOVE LOVE LOVE forming within the Government itself (see: Government Teachers Union).

Is this an effect of Unionization? Yes. Is it good for the Public they're supposedly 'serving'? Nope.  How do you expect a 19 year old to open a business, keep the doors open, repay the loans, somehow manage to raise his/her own family while competing in the market place (highly regulated market place) AND at the same time buy labour hours at a price that's a liveable wage for all his/her employees??? In effect you expect this kid to come up with an idea, start a company, somehow manage to make enough to keep the doors open AND live on .... and at the same time you think anyone he/she hired must be paid a 'liveable' wage? Are you insane!?! As for why aren't their many jobs with 'liveable' wages? (a) After 12 years of Government schooling most Americans don't know how to open a business and have no usable skill sets. (b) We don't have 'free' markets, we have massively hyper-regulated markets, all these 'regulations' keep competition out of the markets (rent-seeking, licencing, regulatory capture, etc...)     Thus we end up with with not many people opening businesses to hire people and an over supply of labor-hours and so, like anything, the price is driven down on hourly labor. Stop and think about it: With 1 in 5 Government School graduates functionally illiterate, they don't command much per hour because no one wants to hire them for anything other than menial labor. But, if you're a programmer, or a medical doctor, engineer, etc... then you'll be paid much more per hour. In summary: It's the Government that's destroying our society by (a) hyper-regulating the markets in favor of a few big players and making it very difficult (sometimes impossible) to open businesses and (b) Government schools pumping out labor-cogs with not very useful skill sets (by the millions each year) over supplying the market with laborers. The solution is shrink government, remove regulations and bring in Chartered schools to replace Government schools. Obama saying he's going to give us a 'free' two more years of useless education at a crappy community college isn't going to change any of the above.

So, no, it's not hyperbole, it's statistical facts. Day care and Government schooling may be the norm now, but this is a recent trend. In the past these would be considered harmful towards children's development.

And that 1 in 5 Government school graduates are functionally illiterate. I know you think more Government is the answer. But the fact is, it's not the answer. It's the problem. Just look at the 2015 budget. $600 BILLION is being spent on the military industrial complex alone.

  7. Mary Fowlie I think 'spanking' is generally defined as hitting to scare and cause pain. A hard slap across the hand would be included in the 'spanking' category. As for 'discipline'. I don't particularly like the word. Children model behaviour, if you would like to act in one way and not another, you model that behaviour. When they do not act in the correct behaviour there are methods that can be used to discourage that behaviour that does not including hitting but does involve being consistent and patent. When parents model hitting, what sort of lesson do you think children take away from that action? Do you think they learn that it's fine for big people to hit small defenseless people sometimes? This must be what they learn - because this is the action being modeled to them.   It should be noted that children hitting other children (and parents) is a communication tool. I once read that children under 2, who hit other children a lot grow up into talkative social children. It's a simple effective means for a baby to attempt at communication.

Suppose you say the word 'elephant' and the child mispronounces the word or says something else. Do you think HITTING the child is going to encourage their learning new words? Or mathematics? Or anything?  All that's needed is to properly model the correct behaviour and when the child does something undesired, all you need to do is model the correct behaviour and show the appropriate re-enforcement through praise or disappointment. Explaining, even prior to their comprehension is still modelling behaviour. Children make mistakes - so what? There's never a reason to hit a child. Never. Ever. Anyway, the scientific data show that children who are hit grow up into adults with a statistically lower IQ and statistically higher chances of mental disorders and likelihood to end up in jail or prison.

Lastly, we stopped using capital in 1913 and started using fiat currency - which is why we must pay a labor tax. To suggest the State's use of violence is required to 'progress' society is, well, a rather small minded way of viewing social interaction. Free voluntary interaction is what creates civil society. Anything other than this, is just a step back into the jungle.

It's actually quite fluid. Which is why keeping the laws simple and few in number makes for a better place to live. I do agree, the police do not make the law. And they are, as the militant arm of the State, tasked with enforcing it regardless of whether or not they believe in the laws they enforce. Some don't. Not a good way to succeed within the State. Which is why those that don't, don't get very far within the establishment.

What's the point in using machines to dig up iron ore if no one is buying anything made from it? It'd just be a waste of time and money. There are more people on Welfare in Illinois than there are people working and Chicago pays the highest wages to teachers than anywhere else in the U.S. (averaging $110,000/year). Gooberment Public 'Servants" have pensions the run an average of 80-90% of their income.  Well - that money has to come from someone, and Progressives have no qualms with f*cking with traffic lights to squeeze what little their average serf has left.... you know, for the 'Good of Society'. Ah, and interestingly enough, there's a district in Chicago that happened to have literacy census data from 1913 and 2013. Literacy rate among Black Americans in 1913 was 85%. In 2013 it was less than 50%. Progressive Democrips, killing off one American city at a time. Lets see, 50 years of unbroken Democratic rule in Detroit brought total destruction - lets see how Chicago plays out.

Far in the future, there may be zero need for labor. 2. Getting rid of bosses is generally associated with mass starvation via socialism, see: USSR or China. What is associated with prosperity is free-markets whereby workers are free to start their own businesses. Unfortunately, Government regulation and licencing scams have made it all but impossible for the poor to start their own businesses. Thus, they end up a worker. In summary: The solution is not to get rid of bosses, that's asinine. Bosses exist because they create value for a company. Nor to get rid of employees. Who do likewise. What we need is LESS regulation and the elimination of government forced licencing. We need to return to a free society with free markets. Which means we need currency competition, just as we had.

  23. I imagine that may seem to be the case - it's not. At the turn of the century 85% of Americans worked on farms. Now less than 3% work on farms. ALL of those truck drivers could be doing something other than driving a truck. This is a GOOD thing. And makes our lives better. Let me put it in another way. Imagine if we cured all disease in 5 years. Imagine ALL those medical professionals who'd be out of work. And you think trucking is a market - try medicine. It's lucrative too. Lots of people are paid lots of money. Now, do you suppose it would be BETTER for the economy if we DID NOT cure disease? Seriously? No, of course not. And the same is true of truck drivers. Again, the key is not to work more, but to work less. And with sound money, the price of items will follow suite. Of course, this would mean ending banking as we know it - and the powers that run USA Inc (Murder Inc really) won't let that happen.

  24. I do both. I run a business with a partner and also work for a company - where I'm paid quite well. All up, my life IS work. How does flying to China, waking up at 4 am, preparing presentations, meeting a driver at 7:00 am, working till 6:00 and then returning to a hotel to begin preparation for the next day - do that for a few weeks. Then return to work on your business all weekend. Anyway, like I said, in a few years, I'll open a school for children - probably somewhere in Asia. If you think you're firing me and magically The Workers are going to run the business - you are living in la la land. It isn't happening. The Worker has no idea how much work the boss put into their lives to develop the skills to be a boss. When you start mathematically modeling cellular signalling, let me know. Until then, you will work. Just as I used to work. If you're smart you'll continue to build capital in yourself and you'll known when you're being given some good advice. When Public Healthcare is as dangerous as a Public Housing project, kills as many people as Public Roads and is as useless as a Public Highschool degree - THEN maybe Americans will return to what made our nation great. I can tell you right now, whatever you are told, the stated goal is almost always exactly the opposite of the internal policy - which is always about more money and power.  The only solution is citizens need to take back control over their lives, end income tax, and use those savings to build the nation from the ground up.   31. The costs imposed on businesses by hyper-regulation and wage controls has shifted much of their resources (or other entrepreneurs) to automate to cut costs. Yes, we need to re-organize back to free-markets, sound money and simple laws that protect private property (including out bodies - which we own, and should therefor have the right to decide what we do with) as well as uphold contract. Government's role should primarily be restricted / limited to ensure basic law is upheld.  As an aside, I see Progressive Socialist paradise Venezuela is running an inflation rate of around 600% again. Argentina is doing well at only 40% inflation. Who knows, maybe if we're lucky, we can usher in our social paradise and run inflation rates of 40 - 600% YOY.

  35. Subliminal Sanity Monsanto owns patents on corn and soy not chicken or vegetables like carrots, broccoli and potato and rice is dirt cheap. a 20 lb bag for $12. If anything Monsanto is probably driving DOWN the cost of chicken as the feed stock is cheaper. That's not my point, my point is how f*cking patronizing David is to just suppose, almost axiomatically, that the poor buy the most calories per dollar or are too stupid to know the difference between fresh CHEAP food and fast-food. I grew up poor, $40 a week poor, we NEVER ate fast-food, ever. The nearest grocery store was a LONG ways away too. But we always ate simple, cheap, fresh food. The Government also gives milk, eggs and cheese vouchers. Together with chicken and vegetables, the poor have never had it so good in terms of food choice.  Having grown up with the poor as a poor person, I can safely say, most of the poor are poor because of they way they think. If they spent half as much time trying to get a job as they do trying to scam the State, they wouldn't be poor.

There is only The Party and it has left and right wings.  As I started to state above: the solution is more freedom, not more Government. We need less government and less regulation so that you can open your own business, or someone else can, and that person will compete for your labor hours and the price of labor will rise. In Japan I see all sorts of business that would be totally illegal in the USA. Restaurants that open out of the back of someone's house, bars that seat 5 people - all sorts of business. It's not like Japan isn't a 1st world nation and yet they have a lot less Regulation for some markets.  The keys are this: sound money (end the central bank, end income tax), law and freedom to trade with one another (free-trade). This is what creates prosperity. ANY attempt to use the State to create prosperity through regulation will destroy society and turn it into a Police State. This is what's happening now. Lastly, I'd also say, Government Schools are doing a great job at destroying the fabric of society and turning everyone into Institutionalized labor cogs further oversupplying the labor market and driving down the price of labor.

This had to come into existence along with the Central Bank due to the way Bonds are sold.   (3) We have more Regulations than at any time in our History. I suppose to the people who accept those regulations, they think each one is a small step in the right direction AKA: Progress.  What we do NOT have are Free-Markets. You can't even get married without permission by the State. We do NOT have sound money, we use Fiat currency. We do NOT have fair Laws (see how the richest 0.1% lawbreakers were just bailed out by the Central Bank).  I suppose, soon Americans will formalize our Oligarchs into Aristocrats and then we can flag wave them and go die in the fake wars they start. I expect to see Americans cheer the rise of a Dictator in my lifetime.

Today, so many people are dependent government for food (the government loves having so many citizens dependent on it for their survival) that if something happened and the government was no longer able to provide food - millions would starve to death. This dependency has occurs in as little as 30 years. Again, as a people never had a shortage - there was never a time so many were so dependent. Now there is. I'm sure the Chinese leadership could have never known they'd starve to death 30 million people. Or the USSR. Or North Korea. All of these Socialist Paradises ended up with millions of humans dependent on their government for their survival and millions starved to death. Don't worry, we're getting more Government in the USA. More regulations. More taxes. More dependency. Less civil liberty. Less personal privacy. Less services. You'll see. While 23% of the general public are not "able to locate information in text", can not "make low-level inferences using printed materials", and are unable to "integrate easily identifiable pieces of information."  YET David in another video suggest mandatory voting? Those plants left. So, the money was wasted GM up and left and they now make most of their money in Asia. Even while I was working there (for a summer) they used to buy some parts from Toyota (spark plugs) instead of from their own company (AC Rochester).
