@xpicklepie sf has switched btwn blue and white collar throughout its history. Most recent blue was manufacturing in late 19th early 20th century. Not sure I see it switching back to blue anytime soon unless you consider tourism blue collar.

@ I grew up in Napa, lived in SF for a couple decades. Not that that makes me an expert or anything. I could see SF return to manufacturing. It does have a port and there's also the Oakland port across the bay although there is no rail from SF to Oakland. In the east (and south-ish) of the city there is land that could be developed / re-developed for industrial use. I think most of that land is already zoned as such. Just spitballing. I suspect that land is more valuable for residential than it is for industrial use. Now, another possibility is datacenter. Compute facilities need to be close to existing POPs (points-of-presence) meaning you can't just drop a datacenter in the middle of nowhere. SF bay is very dense with network infrastructure so I could see a business case made to put datacenters in SF. There are already a few but most of the datacenters in the area are in the south bay (San Jose, etc). Could be interesting business proposition. Anyway I'm just talking to myself probably at this point.
