Heosphoros That’s like saying “doing the right thing means supporting our cause! If you don’t support us, you are wrong!”. The CCP government can say the exact same thing as well. So who should we follow?
“Police violence”, apparently the police aren’t even allowed to disperse or defend themselves against riots anymore, do you expect them to just stand there idly? Let’s talk about “violence” when somebody dies or when the guns start coming out, shall we? Because if this was in America, I bet at least hundreds of “peaceful protestors” would be dead by now.
The police haven’t been getting more “aggressive”,they have been using the same equipment for pretty much the entire event, besides as the comment has already stated: Do you expect them to kiss you if you don’t disperse?.
Do you expect the government to listen to whatever you say? What’s the point of a government then? They’ll give you an inch, the next thing you know, you’ll be asking for a mile. If I use your logic, how about I suggest that the rioters stop?

@presstonedd5678 I do not understand. What makes you think that Hong Kongers, or even Mainlanders, are not able to choose for themselves?
For example, many Mainlanders are Buddhists or practice Chinese folk religion.
They are allowed to choose to believe what is the "correct" way to run a country, even though it may or may not be considered.
I know quite a few people from the Mainland. None of them have had the Chinese FBI knock on their door because they chose to believe in Santa or any form of free thinking.
You are allowed to express your thoughts and opinions freely as long as it does not disrupt the peace for everyone else. This is what freedom means to me. If you are not satisfied or do not like it, you are free to leave, nobody is forcing you to stay. No hard feelings.
What some Hong Kong protestors/rioters are doing right now is forcing others to adopt their ideology of "freedom & democracy" by trashing public and private facilities, disrupting public order, harassing (verbally, physically, cyber) and (sometimes) even outright killing others who do not share their beliefs. Among other things.
This is NOT freedom. This is anarchy. At least to me, don't know about you. I'm sorry, but I simply cannot stand for this.
They have the right to protest, they have the right to express their beliefs. And YES. They have the right to choose their representatives (yes) and leader (indirectly). But this does not mean they are free from the law.

Lisandro Crespo No country in the existence of society has ever been fully communist. All attempts at a communist society have failed, it doesn't work. China is under the communist party, yes. But China is SOCIALIST, look it up...if China was run as a communist country, it would've collapsed a long time ago.
The government restricts the western part of the internet, but you can easily bypass that with a VPN if you wish, but most Chinese citizens don't have a problem with using the Chinese-only internet. Yeah the government restricts religion too but seeing as most Chinese people are born atheists......we don't really have a problem with that either. In my opinion, religion just slows down a country's progress, terrorism, religious conflicts etc. but whatever.
I wasn't implying that Argentina or any other country is brainwashed by capitalism, I was just trying to say that the western media exaggerates what's going on in China, thus "brainwashing", they cover all negative aspects of China and try to spread false info and theories about China's successes in the name of communism. I doubt most people in the west even understand the true concept of communism and blindly follow the media.

angelfire520 “A common definition of separatism is that it is the advocacy of a state of cultural , ethnic, tribal, religious, racial, governmental or gender separation from the larger group. While it often refers to full political secession , separatist groups may seek nothing more than greater autonomy.” You do the math.
The arrest/kidnapping/abduction is an isolated incident, sure it can be considered a breach in the one country two systems policy. But are situations like this happening monthly or even yearly? Of course not. I do not support this act of abduction by the CCP and I sincerely hope they learn from this crime. Is this isolated case enough of a reason to justify the overthrowing an entire government? If that were so, I could justify overthrowing each and every government on the planet at least three times over.
Anything else you would like to mention? Im sure there’s hundreds more violations of the one country two systems policy, I’d like to hear of some more. As you have said, the “firewall” is preventing me from searching anything online for myself. 🙂

angelfire520 So, if this ain’t separatism, then what is it? Let me guess...freedom fighting? Don’t make me laugh. And what does New York have to do with your point?
Again, I do not support the abductions, if China wants to arrest someone for stuff like that they should at least do it publicly. But, these cases are clearly not deliberate attempts to breach the one country two systems policy, China has no intentions of breaking this policy, nor does it have any intentions to replace the HK government for at least fifty years, why would they do such a thing? 50 years is nothing to China, besides Hong Kong is just another Special Economic Zone to them.
And may I ask, why is it whenever China breaches a human rights law or some “international” law, it ends up as headlines on Western based media? Doesn’t seem too fair to the other countries. They deserve credit for what they’re doing as well.
Okay, so the majority of all Hong Kong people don’t trust the government. They don’t like it either. They want a government that listens to them. I’m going to also have to agree with you on this one, as a democracy, the Hong Kong government should start acting like one, even it does take orders from the CCP.
What I don’t agree with is overthrowing the government merely because of this. Completely ridiculous.
BUT, what the Hong Kong government should NOT do, is be irrational and get pushed around by teenage thugs who want their way. Release all the rioters? Retract the riot characterisation? The other three are fine, but this?

7Trident3 China isn't stupid enough to allow that to happen, Taiwan would surrounded and taken in weeks and maybe even days, along with a few smaller islands, it would prevent America from amassing enough firepower in time. Even if America did decide to go and help Taiwan, it wouldn't make much of a difference as China would've taken the coast of Taiwan by then, along with the capital, they wouldn't even be able to transport large amounts of soldiers onto the island without being swarmed. The battle would be lost before it even started.
As for NATO and the rest of the gang, if you honestly think that a large-scale conventional war would be an option, you're dead wrong. What's more, most of NATO wouldn't be capable enough to be able to project enough power to hurt China significantly. To be honest, a scenario like this would be highly unlikely, no one would want to risk getting involved.

If you're talking about the so called "cultural genocide" where 1 million people were sent to "concentration camps", I'm afraid you've been brainwashed by the western government...
Census records the Uighur population as 7.2 million in 1990, 8.4 million in 2000 and 10 million in 2010. If China is committing genocide, it's doing a pretty poor job at it, haha...
Hell, Tibetans and Uigurs have it pretty good actually, their education standards are FAR lower than that of the Chinese, makes it easier for them to get good grades.
As for the Catholics, they've been doing something that is clearly stated time and time again to be ILLEGAL IN CHINA. There are already designated locations in which they can practice their religion freely, yet they still perform it in secret, I wonder why? If they want to spread their religion and disrupt Chinese society, they should move to America...what they are doing is not welcome in China...
I don't see how persecuting people who don't abide by the law is "unethical" in any way, it's just that the West sees their standards as the "correct" way to do things.

“State controlled media”. SCMP is blocked in the Mainland...
Just because it is owned by Jack Ma, who just happens to be part of the CCP, doesn’t mean that he is biased in favour of China, nor does it mean that his news company is biased in favour of China. BBC is owned by Britain, can I say that all of BBC’s news is biased in favour of Britain? CNN is owned by America, can I say that all of CNN’s news is biased in favour of America? See, your logic simply doesn’t make any sense.
“I think that those thugs who attached the people at the station is just gangs hired by the gov’t of China”, got any evidence for that? Or are you blinded by your anger? You know, these could just be locals defending their territory from the chaos happening in Hong Kong in their own way as the police cannot do anything to help them, so they must help themselves.
“The real purpose of the protests be blurred and will be criticised.” I actually think that this is the complete opposite, and has done nothing but generated sympathy for the protests.

Here we go again...another two people who don’t know what they’re talking about...let’s clear some things up...
1. China is NOT communist. Period.
2. A good dictatorship is better than a corrupt democracy.
3. Apparently huge advances in technology and innovation is a “sad reality”. I don’t see Taiwan making any major achievements.
4. Every power in the world has done evil and made mistakes to get where they are now, not just China. Ever heard of slavery?
5. I’m not fortune-teller, but I’m pretty sure if the KMT did somehow take over, it would NOT be anything like today’s Taiwan I’m afraid to say. Let me remind you that this is the KMT we’re talking about. There would be no guarantee that it would be a democracy, there would be less infrastructure, rampant corruption leading to stuff like Tiananmen happening much earlier, and it would have less international influence overall. Sure some good may come out of it, such as the prevention of the Cultural Revolution, but I doubt it would be what you’d expect...
6. I’m sorry, but if you’d like to convert a country into another American lapdog, please do it to some other country. I don’t even know how people like you can even call yourselves “Chinese” when you’re bowing down to your white masters...it’s disgusting...

I guarantee you, Carrie Lam resigning WILL NOT end the protests, they’ll keep asking for more until Donald Trump becomes Chief Executive of Hong Kong or something outrageous...you give these protestors an inch, next thing you know, they’ll ask for a mile. Besides, the CCP will just put in another Chief Executive just like her in her place if that ever happens, you and I both know it, so what’s the point?
China is honouring the 1997 Treaty, the extradition bill has ALREADY BEEN SHELVED for crying out loud, the people who aren’t honouring the 1997 Treaty here are the rioters and the protestors who are using this event as an excuse to ask for independence. If the government ever mentions anything about the extradition bill again, go ahead and knock yourselves out, but for now JUST STOP WITH THE RIOTS.

Dominic Fong Mao wasn't responsible for all the deaths that happened, mostly it was because of famine that happened every year which was the result of KMT rule...Mao prevented it from happening every year, but yeah Mao really messed up during the Cultural Revolution and the Great Leap Forward. I know that communism doesn't work, but it's not like it's specifically designed to kill as many people as possible.
In my opinion, freedom of speech and freedom of religion isn't really all that important for society, if it works, it works. We don't need to worry about politics, because the government knows what it's doing, and it's doing its job well. If you interviewed a couple of people in China and see what they thought of it, they would say they don't really care as long as they're safe and have all the basic necessities (watch Asian Boss). Maybe freedom of religion is needed but most Chinese are atheists anyway. About the constant monitoring...don't know about that because I live in Hong Kong and that kind of thing doesn't exist here, but I personally wouldn't have a problem with it as long as they don't go too far, it's really personal preference.
Can't really say anything about the copying and stealing as I know it's a big problem and I would be pissed off too if I were you, but try not to put the blame on the whole of China as some of these people are just trying to make a living. We are trying very hard to improve.

AFksAPIEN Those “crimes” seem awfully specific to be “international laws”, you’re obviously not just saying they’re international laws to fit your agenda, clearly...
1. The cops need to protect their identities as well, moreover officer’s kids are being harassed due to bullying both online and at school just because their parent is a police officer. And double standard again, rioters/protestors wear their masks, so why can’t the police choose not to identify themselves? 🙂
2. Uhh. Since when did weapons have “safety guidelines”? Are there “safety guidelines” for molotovs and bricks? I’d love to hear them.
3. Are officers NOT allowed to enter hospitals anymore? So called private property...better than vandalising and or completely trashing them just because they have origins from the Mainland, at least...”sorry, wrong bank.”
4. What are you even talking about? Unprotected police dogs? TG?
5. Agreed. I assume you’re talking about the bamboo stick incident. The police need to be more professional, and incidents like these need to be investigated. Then again, there isn’t any direct proof that the officer had malicious intent. The police claimed the protestor dropped the stick, and the officer put it back in his bag AFTER the protestor was arrested. It could go either way. Who knows. But definitely not an excuse to jump to conclusions.
6. There is zero proof that the police have attempted in blocking ambulance or fire department services. Even their respective departments have admitted that the police have done no such thing. Besides, if anyone’s blocking the road, then it’s the rioters with their homemade “road blocks”.
7. Arbitrary? Give me one case. Link to a credible news source. Multiple would be better.
8. Here we go again...
9. Again, no direct proof that the white shirts were hired by anybody. BUT. The case seems very fishy (government official shaking hands with a “triad” member). An in-depth investigation is needed.
10. Police attacking firemen, medics and social workers? Proof? Civilians, probably, but I doubt intentionally. Yeah, the “press”, if you get in the way of a officer, of course you’re going to get hit, what do you expect? You know what you signed up for.
Anymore “international laws” I should know of?

Why do you think China is "a pile of sand"? China is actually getting stuff done by being united, unlike many other countries, take the Hong Kong-Zhuhai bridge as an example, it would take decades for other countries to accomplish, while China does it in a mere EIGHT YEARS. Sure, China has a long history of corruption, but what country with a flowing economy isn't somewhat corrupt? Hell, nowadays China is actually against corruption with an emphasis on many, MANY, anti-corruption campaigns. It's literally one of the main goals of the CCP, to get rid of corruption.
Yeah, China still has a long way to go, but don't call China weak just because it's "corrupt".
1
-
Street Rider It was an example of what China could do in a short period of time....I'm from Hong Kong and yeah, I probably wouldn't use the bridge too haha, however it IS accessible to the public, not just for the "corrupt" Chinese officials, the whole point was to connect the mainland to Hong Kong, lol. To be honest, a bunch of other countries build stuff to symbolise power and strength, take India and America for example, the massive statue of unity and the Mexico border, both projects serve no purpose (the wall won't stop immigrants and drug smugglers, ever heard of a plane?) and are more a symbol of power. Nothing wrong with displaying power.
My point is, China gets shit done. Their infrastructure is simply getting better and better daily (railroads, megacities, green projects, you get the idea).
I don't get it with you, what makes you think China is an evil nation with corruption spelt all over it? Is it bias? Or is it something else?
1
-
Street Rider Personally, I don't give jack shit on what the Mainland does to Hong Kong. The idiocy from some Hong Kongers here is just beyond me, asking for independence even though we're still clearly a part of China, this is what just what happens when people become too proud of their unique "identity". Why can't people just be grateful for what they already have? Who knows, maybe China might change Hong Kong for the better, only time will tell...
You are misusing the word "corruption", you interpret it as something evil, while us Chinese interpret it as "inefficiency". This means that officials who don't do their job properly are also labelled as "corrupt". Officials who do their job properly but take in bribes or steal would simply be charged with theft. The Chinese honestly don't care as long as they themselves benefit from their government. And in truth, the Chinese are pretty damn efficient, so I don't really care about this massive "corruption" problem you speak of, and I have no idea on what makes you think that China is trying to enforce its influence on other countries, but I can only say that our government is only what it's intended.
The West and China have very different outlooks on what human rights should be, China treasures two national values dearly: Prosperity & Stability. Our system has pulled more than hundreds of millions of people out of poverty, given them a chance at a good life, with good education, healthcare, job opportunities and infrastructure, this includes Tibet and Xinjiang. I find it funny that the world's current modern political system can't solve society's basic needs. I don't know about you, but the fact that the 1.4 billion people in China haven't took off and left yet seems like enough evidence to me that we DON'T have a problem with our current living standards.
I mean seriously, the country that has been at war for almost all of its existence, allowed the use of Agent Orange in Nam and even has their own prison camp in G-Bay is the one that gets to decide the level of human rights in other countries??? Who put them in charge? How about they fix up all their human rights problems first before judging others. Otherwise they're just a bunch of hypocrites. Not saying that China or any other country should be the one in charge (not that any country should be), just saying that it's completely outrageous how the US gets to decide what's right and what's wrong in the world.
In my opinion, the West likes using human rights as a political weapon to make other countries look bad, simply out of fear at the thought of another country powerful enough to challenge its authority, out of fear of another global powerhouse, I think it's known as "propaganda", from where you come from. But the West doesn't call it that for some reason....*cough* bunch of hypocrites *cough*....
Yeah, call me a corrupt government official or brainwashed CCP robot or whatever you want, I don't really care, but here's just food for thought for you to munch on.

So you think the bloody police are just going to rebel against their own country just because the supposed masses are doing it? You expect the police to make friends with the rioters? Perhaps you simply expect the police to just stand there and watch? My friend, that would be incompetent and unprofessional.
Badly treated its citizens? Threatened civilian lives? What, you expect them to give them a pat on the back and a hug after the rioters literally catapulted bricks and intentionally tried to blind them with laser pointers? If this happened in America, I guarantee you hundreds of police and protestors alike would’ve been shot dead, thanks to the Second Amendment. Yet in Hong Kong, not ONE civilian death has happened over the past 3 months, how about you check out what other countries’ police are doing first before criticising the HK police force so harshly.
Sure, I agree with the protestors that the police should’ve done more at Yuen Long, those white-shirted gangsters should’ve been arrested and they should’ve done a thorough investigation. But from the police’s point of view, if they DID mean to let the gangsters beat up the protestors, can you really blame them? At the end of the day, the rioters are no better than the white shirts, they are in no position to beg the police to help them.
“The above act is because the protestors are protecting themselves.” Protecting themselves? I guess attempting to block and possibly completely trash (it has happened before, check out what they did to some random dude’s van which also happened to be his only source of income) a police vehicle is “protecting themselves”.
I live in Hong Kong, I am a Hong Kong citizen. I’m the one who should hope people like you can fully understand what’s going on here. Come to Hong Kong sometime and maybe you can look at the situation from both sides instead of staring at a screen and looking at one side.

Anna Montageo I am also talking about the protest. Wait out the protest, same tactic as the rioters/protestors.
“If only the government listened to us sooner, none of this would’ve happened!”
If a man has a gun to your head asking you for all your money, you refuse, then he shoots you, can the guy with the gun say: “If only the guy I was mugging listened to me, he wouldn’t have died!” See? Doesn’t sound so nice when your reasoning doesn’t fit your narrative.
Well, there was originally only one demand, and that was the official withdrawal of the extradition bill. Now that has happened, did it calm down the protests or stop the riots? Even by a little bit? No. So what makes you think complying with all 5 demands will do anything?
But, to be fair, I agree with the investigation of police “brutality”. Whether they’re innocent or guilty, it must be proven in court. The resignation of Carrie Lam demand is also fine, I guess, Hong Kong is a democracy after all. For now at least.
As for the release of the rioters and the retraction of the riot characterisation? Over my dead body.

Girish Radhakrishnan Maybe "controlled" was too strong of a word. "Influenced" would've been better.
Have you seen any country (besides NK of course) with as little western influence and dependence in it as China? All around the world, there are people quickly giving up their cultures and lifestyle in favour of the US, don't you think this is a little much? I know many people with different nationalities whose main goal is to move to the US to start a family or a business instead of in their country. I'm not saying that this is bad but many countries are simply blindly following the US without thinking of their themselves, basically converting themselves into a US lapdog.
So far, China is the only country who is standing up to American dominance, and as a Chinese, I'm pretty darn proud.
I'd just like to point out again, I'm not against America, I'm not against the countries who follow America, I'm just saying that instead of following the US, maybe it's time to grow up and make our own decisions....

"Saying whatever you want" is considered an abuse of Freedom Of Speech.
Freedom Of Speech is the right to state OPINIONS. Not to make jokes or hate messages to the government, freedom of speech is okay, but without proper enforcement, it can turn into something bad, which is what usually happens... It's the reason why there are rarely any riots in China anymore. The government is doing an excellent job, so why should you care? To cause disruption in society?
"Not being able to get information without a VPN", that my good sir, is entirely FALSE. You see, Google, YouTube and Twitter aren't the only sites out there you know? You only need a VPN to explore the western part of the internet, which is exactly what China doesn't want, it doesn't want to turn into a western led society, well at least not yet. Now this has got its upsides and downsides, but it's up to the Chinese government to decide, not the West.

Funny how you determine building quality in the whole of China based on literally five abandoned districts, if you'd like to see some REAL low quality building, just take a look at the skyscrapers in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen! Jokes aside, you must realize that they're called "ghost cities" for a reason, little to no maintenance whatsoever, so you should expect at least a couple of buildings to be in bad shape.
The problem is, China is developing too fast.
Besides, it's not that simple to fill up ghost cities, you got to clean up the mess, provide electricity, water and property management, they're not connected to other populated cities, a lack of infrastructure. Not even a homeless person would want to live there. Some of China's ghost cities will definitely get populated someday, but it's unlikely that all of them will.

Oh please, the Chinese government has better things to do. Why would they waste their valuable time on reading ridiculous comments like yours?
So by your logic. People that are aged 20-60+ (the majority) are kids? So anything a “kid” does is now acceptable? If some random kid off the streets breaks into your house and steals your wallet, will you simply shrug it off and forgive him because all “kids” are innocent?
You know who else is willing to die for their beliefs? ISIS. Are they automatically good guys now because of this fact?
Ok, so China isn’t allowed to exercise force on its own city now? Otherwise, China is a bully? Do you expect China to call back all of their police and let the rioters/protestors to do what they please?
Yeah, yeah, the whole world hates China, we get that a lot.
Just for your information, Tiananmen was 30 years ago, under a different president. You think China enjoys killing people? China will only do what it must to obtain national stability. Besides, if the riots happened in America instead, I guarantee you hundreds or even thousands of policemen and civilians alike would be dead by now, thanks to the second amendment. And again, for your information, the CCP hasn’t even deployed any of their military forces yet, they haven’t even deployed their own police force. What makes you think that the CCP is going to jump straight to the tanks again? Do you think China is stupid enough to repeat their own mistakes? Think again.

The thing that sparked all of this, the “extradition bill”, has been withdrawn. There ain’t anymore threat to Hong Kong’s autonomy. Besides, 2047 is inevitable anyways. Fight if you want, but don’t cry when you get arrested/beaten. Being a rioter/unlawful protestor is like being a soldier, you know what you’ve signed up for, grow a pair and shoulder some responsibility.
A better future? Hong Kong HAS no future without China, Hong Kong relies too much on the Mainland. And I highly doubt China will be anxious to support HK anymore if HK does miraculously pull it off. Moreover, asking for outside assistance simply proves you’re not fit to lead...this is Hong Kong’s responsibility, not America’s or Britain’s nor Taiwan’s.
“It will only dawn on us how lucky we are when in fact it is too late.” Couldn’t agree more. Hong Kong doesn’t cherish its privileges it has when compared to other Chinese cities, instead it chooses to fight for “freedom” from a “tyrannical/oppressive government”. Why don’t the other Chinese cities or even Macau feel the same way then? Perhaps it’s because they’re all brainwashed with communist propaganda? Yeah that’s it...Hong Kongers are all free-thinkers...
And tell me, as a typical Chinese citizen living in the Mainland, what basic human rights are being violated? What essential rights do they not have that people in foreign countries do? Being democratic isn’t a human right by the way, if you were gonna say that.

Drowning Narcissist How am I being non-sequitur? How am I staying off topic? I am merely conversing about what you stated in the first place, please elaborate before throwing random accusations at me without explanation.
POPULATION INCREASE IS NOT A PROBLEM IN CHINA, PERIOD. It's the population concentration in the big cities is the problem. There is plenty of land in China, it's just that only the big cities are crammed full of people, what's more, the population is said to peak at 1.44 billion before declining in 2029.
Did you know that by 2050, over 330 million Chinese will be considered as elderly? That's more than the whole God damn population of America right now. Elderly can't work, elderly require constant care, and what's your solution? Start purging the elderly population every year?
You misunderstood me, human worth is the same in almost every country, the government doesn't give a flying fuck whether your grandmother dies right now, do you expect them to? I'm saying HUMAN RIGHTS is different in China, and we don't have a problem with that, go visit China and ask some random guy off the street whether your precious democracy cough fake cough matters to him? Our system works, so why does it bother you so much?
And also, no need to get so defensive over expendable lives, it's always been this way, really don't understand why you care so much when there are already millions dying in Africa, Syria etc. Go help them instead.

Tom Müller Most of China’s debt is borrowed from itself, it’s internal. Not a major threat to any country. It’s debt goes into “useful things”, like infrastructure, so even if this debt bubble does exist, it won’t be difficult to pay off. In fact, China is more of a “lender” than a “borrower”, just look at all the controversy with China and Africa about the debt traps! Even you can’t deny it!
What’s funny is how everyone is talking about China’s debt bubble and how it’s going to “collapse this year!” for the past 2 decades, when it’s actually America who is more likely to pop, trillions of dollars in debt, China is actually worried that America won’t be able to pay off its debt it’s borrowing from China, even the IMF has urged America to reduce its debt...
It’s true that China’s growth IS indeed slowing down, but it’s still growing faster than most countries in the world, in fact, it’s growth rate is more than double than America’s Annual GDP Growth Rate, 3% to China’s 6.7% (2018).
You can ignore all of this evidence if you’d like, it won’t affect me or anyone else, if you still believe that China will collapse anytime soon then go right on ahead, it’s just giving China the advantage! ;)
(P.S. Your imagination doesn’t make fiction a reality. Not saying that it CANT happen, just telling you to take your imagination with the smallest grain of salt.)

angelfire520 Those booksellers had it coming to be honest, if you wanna publish and sell a book that trash talks about the Chinese government, do it in America. It’s like they were begging to be kidnapped.
Oh, and the extradition bill is shelved, doesn’t matter what you think about it, but the truth is that it is shelved. If it is ever mentioned again, feel free to knock yourself out and go nuts, but for now just stop these riots. Heck, the protests and riots aren’t even about the extradition bill anymore.
I’m sorry, but I’m just flipping through my dictionary and nowhere does it state does a “true” riot have to include looting, “rapes”, “gun fire”, and killings. Please enlighten me, if this isn’t a “true” riot, what is this? A “peaceful” protest?
YouThe consequences of action and the consequence of inaction will always be the same at the end of the day, Hong Kong will return to Mainland China and will fall under the rule of the Chinese government. Whatever the rioters are doing will only make the situation worse for themselves.

On a more serious note. Since when did the world suddenly care so much about the Uighur/Tibetan minority? Also known as the minority whose religion has quite a reputation for..ahem...let’s just put it this way...having an “explosive” set of practices...
And since when has evidence been given that shows China’s camps are “concentration camps” at all? I’ve been hearing the term been thrown around a lot when it comes to the Uighurs and Tibetans, but nobody actually has any solid proof. Strange, don’t you think? You would expect camps with at least...what was it again? Oh yes. A MILLION people in total being detained to have had escaped by now.
China’s claim on so called “international waters” are fairly justified in my opinion. China’s only doing what it has to, to secure itself. China is surrounded by enemies, with America practically on their doorstep with their military bases all over China’s neighbours’ soil (funnily enough, they don’t seem to mind these foreign military bases on their own territory). If America were to have full control of the SCS in a war-time scenario (I will assume America would be the aggressor, because really, when are they not?), China would be SCREWED. Sorry buddy, but in this world it’s survival of the fittest.
Besides, China has claims on only 8 of the islands in the SCS, the same as the Philippines, and a few of them are man-made if I’m not mistaken. Vietnam on the other hand claims FORTY EIGHT. Why not go bug them instead? :(
