To the majority of the 270 other cultures in Australia, many who became Australians on Australia Day, its very meaningful for them! My flag belonged to my grandfather, whose great grandfather built towns and farms for Australians and a huge family legacy! I am Australian and filled with pride and joy, if you change to a politicians birthday or any other day, you should be publicly shamed! 🙋🇦🇺

Actually Holland discovered this continent (the west coast) invaded, mapped it and claimed it, that was nothing to do with Brittain! Greek philosophers already knew Terra Australis existed but not exactly where or what size, France were minutes behind England who had located the East coast! An actual verifiable date when the convicts and guards were landed to create a workable colony makes sense to me!

@danieledmunds588 Only the Greeks knew that such a place existed, but not exactly where! The Dutch were trying to find another alternative route to Europe and "discovered" that it was a barely inhabited useful coastline with possibilities for another East Indies base - which they claimed for Holland! They invaded that territory and Tasmania, well before England decided to create a colony here (as England was overcrowded) they arrived just before! We could now be Dutch, Portugese, French, Spanish, Indonesian, Japanese or Chinese, but we were very lucky to have England!

@danieledmunds588 The second is debatable, they originated in Africa and had the benefit of a land bridge - they certainly didn't know it already had a name!
