I have lost some lovely neighbours to New Zealand, from renting in Sydney to buying in New Zealand and retiring is very attractive! 😏 American prices have increased a lot! What you can buy anywhere depends on your income and needs, and your ability to update it yourself! Most AU & NZ houses have gardens! No furnaces, dual (heat & cold) air is usual, fireplaces are common in colder areas! (In ACT you need indoor heating/cooling!) Wellington is very windy, like Hobart, so wind chill factor! No Bugs, that can't be true they have lots of sheep!? 😏 Basements were usually built for cold storage or safety from storms, invasion or war - not really needed in modern homes! Australians have outdoor sheds instead! Yep, use a clothes lines, your clothes last longer - I saw a US couple moving to Spain and asking for a drier!? The less food you buy, the less you throw out; stove kettles are less efficient! 🤔
