Interesting, certainly in the 1930s and 1970s times were really tough on normal (eg apples to Europe) export markets BUT Tasmanians are tough people, who really work together and help each other! This most brutal of England's convict colonies, has survived mostly intact and are very houseproud! The living history is still there as a reminder! 😀 Softies, unwelcome! 😏

  2. Really? We had open windows! My mother left towels out overnight in the wonderful morning frost to soften them, and we never owned a clothes dryer! 🤨

  9. Exactly, it's easy to access most of Tasmania, the coast and the cities, and there are also conveniences all around the island! Max drive approx 4 hrs!

  10.  @tikkabrno  Yes! 😂 I did some temp contract work in Sydney from the Lower North Shore to Epping or Mascot by public transport and back! And to Westmead Hospital by trains! 😩🥱 I used to sleep in the car home from Hobart to Huonville, only 40 mins away! 😆

My sister moved to Melbourne for her daughter, air conditioning every day, power outages, noise, crowds, protests, hates it!! 😥 MONA, yes, is definitely a must see in Hobart, you will need a few hours there, it's very interactive and a great environment! Its totally unique in the world, an extraordinary achievement by a very creative entrepreneur! 👍

  20. Hey two heads mean two brains, sad for the others! When they say cold they mean windy (southern ocean) it actually is much warmer than Canberra in winter and the summer is very hot because of the lack of pollution! Tasmania has had environmental bans since the 1970s! Rain - there is less rain in Hobart than most cities particularly Sydney! Food, is unrelentingly fresh and gourmet, as the air, soil and water are so clean! Many traditional large industries are closed, but tourism operators (like resort operators) are fast buying in! The cost of living - housing is cheaper, hydro power for over 100 years, great food is readily available! Yes, the jobs are mostly in small businesses, hospitality, tourism, farming, television, entrepreneurialism, exploritory mining, health services, the environmental and natural science fields! Educational standards are excellent! Any voyage to Antarctica must be taken by ship from Hobart, it is also and important research destination! The best quality flowers, whisky, honey, cider, oysters, lobster, abalone, berries, air, etc in the world! The housing market is exploding in some places, and many new sport facilities are under construction, the locals prefer to keep Tasmania pristine (naturally) tourism is huge but they mostly go home, usually! I'm a sixth generation Tasmanian (living in Sydney now) all my family were well educated, none intermarried, and all are genuine, friendly, hardworking, useful people! I have overseas friends there now from the UK, they love it too, and are happily eating their way around Hobart! 😁👍

  21. True! Tasmania will survive any climate disaster, but hurry up if you want to live there then or find a resident who can recommend you! Maybe you will need a separate passport in a few years! 🤔😄

  22. Yes English "convicts" included even unwanted wives or maids who got pregnant, Irish dissidents, American pirates, French spies, African ex slaves, inconvenient Scots, many orphans, new babies! Not typical Convicts? 😏

  24. Its still affordable, and there are 'many' areas still undeveloped only an hour from Hobart or Launceston! In Sydney it can take two hours to reach outer suburbs! Distance is relative! 🤔 Real Estate costs have not risen like Sydney or Melbourne, but they may slightly increase with demand! 🧐
