In fact their survival rates had increased dramatically due to Christian care and intervention, access to healthier food, medicine, hygiene, clothes and safer water! Previously only 1 in 3 lived to adulthood, birth was precarious, and most carried physical scars!

Yes many children were transported to Australia - have you ever watched/read Oliver Twist, it was the time of survival of the fittest, no jobs, and no social welfare! The babies of unprotected women, from male convicts and the guards, were born on the convict ships and after the first fleet arrived too! They luckily escaped the brutal child labour and diseases of industrial England!
