Bussiness likes standardization ... especially in a country which is fond of cleanliness and order.

"Trade to the EU from the UK is at an all time high. " this is a lie. The ONS showed the opposit just some weeks ago.

@Phil_AKA_ThundyUK Why? So that everyone plays with the same rules. The EU very much likes competition .... but not unfair competition and giants try to play unfair all the time.

The EU is around for quite a while now. If it were this bad it would come up already. But since represenatives from 27 countries controlling it and share the power it has it never turned into what you described. And it also showed that having such a diverse and large administation from so many countries makes it extremly hard to corrupt. Bussiness try for decades with armies of lobbyists to undermine and corrupt the EU administration ... and achieve so little. Especially in comparison to Britain or the US where you just need to bribe a couple people to get almost everything you want.

The EU is not actor on the market only an enforcer of rules for everyone acting in the market. That's why the EU cannot be a racket. Or in other words the EU is an umpire not a player.

I heared this from Brexiteer for 40 years. Hasn't happened yet and not looking like it will anytime soon. If anything than Brexit made it even less likely and showed why it's good idea to stay.

@askeladd60 The Euro solved more problems than it created which makes it a better solution. And if I look at the course of the Pound (1.20$ ... even during Brexit it was 1.29$ and 1.99$ in 2007) it proves me right.
1
@askeladd60 The Euro has the same value as on it's introduction and not lost 40% value over a decade.
1
@askeladd60 You really think you can fool my with your little number-plays? Why do you think I used the dollar for comparison to have a relative non-inflationary comparison. However my argument stands: Not the Pound. The Pound lost MORE and that's my point. Britain was idiotic not to adopt the Euro and everyone now pays the price literally at the checkout while a couple billionaires not only robbed a bank but a whole country.
1
@askeladd60 Well I leave you to your wishful thinking than. You have my pity. Let's talk again in 20 years.

Thank god for that, noone needs a new superstate. Strong to the Outside, Diverse to the inside is all we need. You know I closely follow US politics for a while now. The US is less united political than the EU ... ironically. And for decades I thought otherwise until I began to look closer.

You wrote a lot but said very little. And I don't see any argumentation just pointless and aimless sentences. If I didn't know any better I would guess you are a Brexiteer trying to justify Brexit ... well maybe I do.
1
I wish the US would. They could but they don't do because the top policitians doing political prostitution to the Corporate World by selling their power, position and influence to the highest bidder. Take money out of politics maybe than it might be possible.
1
Maybe. But consumers need a bully fighting for them because bussiness will exploit any loophole they can get.

Outdated viewpoints from the 20th century and with a very American-flavor if I might add. I will not try to convince you otherwise just stating my opinion to your viewpoint.

@Ghettofinger The times of expanding by military conquest are almost over. Only Russia and China are the reason why western countries maintain large armies. Humanity moved on. And why conquering with all the costs for military involed, destroying large chunks you actually would prefer to keep, killing the workforce you want later to have and worse ... when the only thing you want is a shared market/economy in the end we already have. And the EU is there as a watchdog to make sure everyone is playing fair. Imperialism is an outdated concept (and expensive) just America, Russia and China holding on to it and Britain pretends to still be but long moved on and just take a little longer to realize it. The future is expanding by regional development and actually expanding the market and wealth in the market (given it more buying-power) instead of just taking what your neighbour had and destroy half or more while taking it.

Factually wrong. But I will not warm up this particular soup from 2016 again. Believe whatever you want to believe. I pity you and leave you to it.

@serenityssolace But you voted your government and they send the officials to the EU Commission and Council (in the EU Council sitting two national government officials from each country). And this is the reason why I refuse to debate with the likes of you. 1) You won. You got what you wanted. UK left what Do you complain about it now? 2) You either unintentional give false or incomplete informations (misinformation) or intentional making you a liar or 3) You not even bothered checking making you a lazy ignorant. Or 4) You just want a reaction and not caring about what you need to say for it (Trolling). Regardless ... not worth my time.

You know that European Coal Power Plants have the strongest filter-equipment on this planet? They sometimes even apply CO2 capture. So yes it's terrible if it comes to it, but it's not the end of the world.
