Isn't that obvious. If you have a large dangerous red dog as neighbour you need some kind of invasion-insurance. Ukraine is now the best example why.

NATO is an Invasion-Insurance: "An attack on one is an attack on all" Only governments who seek military conquest and invasion hate it. Besides NATO does not expand on it own, countries have to apply for membership noone is forced.

Until Putin changed this with Crimean invasion it was not an issue. And noone considered ever invading Russia. This is was rubbish. Putin just hates that NATO makes invasion impossible.

@quinntinmann Don't give me this bullshit. Noone forces a country to join NATO you must apply for it. If Russia is really worried about an invasion I would suggest Russia applies for NATO membership as well.

@xr2kid You cannot use NATO for invasions. If you try no NATO member helps you according to treaty law and you cannot count on any help from NATO member when you started the war and get counterattacked. Yes US is a NATO member, maybe the most important, but when America decides to do their own stuff like Iraq or Afghanistan NATO has nothing to do with it. NATO was activated only once so far on 9/11 after an attack on a NATO member. If Russia is really worried about an invasion I suggest Russia joins NATO too.

@xr2kid Liby was not a NATO Operation. Kosovo was indeed enforced by NATO. However NATO not invaded Kosovo or Serbia first for that matter. Serbia invaded Kosova and started killing civilians and genocide to take back formerly owned land (same a Putin now). @xr2kid NATO members did. But not NATO or in the name NATO. This is the case in all your arguments except Kosovo which was humanitarian. Just because the US acts like a lose cannon does not mean NATO is doing it or helping them. US != NATO I can see the hate you have against America and it made a lot of mistakes and I do not support everything they did. But this has nothing to do with NATO which is an invasion-insurance and nothing else.

@xr2kid I agree with you regarding America and especially the thirst for spending tax money to fuel the military complex. Did NATO overstepped it's mandate on Kosovo? Yes. In Lybia - assuming your informations are all right - Yes. Am I for overstepping the boundaries if the alternative is watching manslaughter on CNN while sitting around? Yes. Am I for NATO helping Ukraine even if it means overstepping the boundary again and even with the risk of direct war with Russia? Yes. If Putin is not stopped in Ukraine and this bully is shown strong military resistence against invading your neighbour and killing civilians when will he? On his next try in 8 years? I want a Democratic Russia. Applying for NATO membership itself and making it almost obsolete with it. And I want a Russia which applie for EU membership. And I want the same for Ukraine as well. Maybe than everybody feels saver and the military complex lose it's importance and influence.
