  2.  SMEGY 89  There is a flaw in your argumentation. Those immigrants you refering to were partly in the UK based on Freedom of Movement and therefore already had a different citizenship and can easily move to every other EU country because those countries still have this law in place just not the UK anymore in 5 months. The people now requesting citizenship in the EU are people who formerly not had a foreign citizenship but now want to have one before the time runs out at the end of transition period. In other words native UK citizens. I can only speculate about their reasons, but two scenarios are highly likely: They seeing what's now coming to the UK. So they are either Remainers who already know what's about to come or Leavers who prefer to have an insurance in case the Remainer indeed are right or worse knew all the time what would be waiting. Both seem not be willing to go through what's waiting for the UK next year or have enough of this Johnson government devestating Corona policy and not want to live through a 2nd wave. Maybe both. And since it needs a certain level of maturity to either realize what's coming or want an insurance I'm pretty sure those are some of the more clever ones now applying for EU citizenship. So I stand by my initial comment: The best go first.
