  1. You just have to see Trump as a Mafia-Boss. Then it makes all sense. His cabinett. His foreign-policy. His domestic policy. His wish to be unaccountable and unchecked and unlimited. The wish to bribe and be bribed. The wish to be seen as a benefector/daddy. The wish to get tributes. The wish to be treated with respect (fear). And the bullying. His personality flaws are like a catalyst for all this.

  2. Trump has the same problem most of the Brexiteers had: A simplyfied view of reality. They only saw the 17 bn costs and the 5.4 bn floating back and decided "we lose money there". Most of the benefits of EU membership were indirectly which cannot easily be seen, e.g. because of cost saving because of agencies the EU done for the UK, standards, controls, trade deals and negotiations etc. which made trade smoother and increases safety and investments. It's really hard to quantify this stuff. But now that it's gone you feel it and you begin to have to pay for this stuff yourself and suddenly you realize the 17 bn was a bargain.

  3. "What is in it for me" is also a central viewpoint of Trump for everything he does. From his perspective America belongs to him. Like a company he bought. Sometimes I even get the feeling he thinks he is America. And when Trump not personally benefits from something it has no worth for him and he is not interested.
