  2. This is even worse than Brexit because of the free trade agreement with the EU there are largly 0% tariffs on everything. Just the fact that there is suddenly a border and checks and waiting times and paperwork already costed the UK 3% GDP. Imagine there would be 25% on top of everything.

  3. If we are really really lucky than this is just Trumps attempt to raise taxes without looking like taxes to fund the tax cuts and the wealth fund and all the other grifts. And when someone complains he says "blame Canada". Although I think even for Maga this would be a strech. In worst case Trump really believes this will fix things. Basically malice vs. ignorance.

  4. Billions not Trillions. The total US budget is 6,700 billion every year. US AID was 0.5% of that. And they are not saved but cut and it remains to be seen what consequences this has. For example losing influence and softpower in South-America, Africa. Potential serious illnesses breaking out crossing the pond. What it causes already is that US farmers lost a potent buyer of their products (US AID bought food from US farming). ... But the worst is: The "saved" money is not helping the tax payers. It is used to reduce the tax for people above 370,000$ per year.
