25 years ago? Well this was after the re-unification of Germany when West-Germany needed to help East-Germany fixing the consequences of 40 years of planning economy mismanagement and lacking investment into bussiness and infrastructure. It is amazing that Germany managed to recover at all after this and returned as the powerhouse in the EU, a G7 member and 4th largest economy on the planet.

Germany was never called "The sick man of Europe" but the UK was called this 50 years ago before joining the EC. And as things are going in Britain after Brexit it is there again.

There were economic reasons for doing that. The 2 nuclear power plants are incompatible with the rising regenerative green energy in Germany. Nuclear power plants not working well and efficient when constantly started and stopped. And green energy is already cheaper than nuclear so using nuclear is economical and ecological rubbish ... especially when only used as a buffer for times when green power is low.

The "far-left" is not in power in Germany. They are called "Die Linke". And they are not in power and they doing badly in the polls. You hadn't thought about it didn't you. Yes there are multiple flavors of "left".

@grahamellis6029 The UK is 0.05% away from a recession. Do you call that a "boom"?
2
@JJ-ft6jb Because nuclear power plants have high inefficiencies when being started and stopped. Coal/Steam doesn't have this issue.

@grahamellis6029 Granted technical it is not a recession. But the UK seen better days and Brexit certainly making everything worse what Germany also has to deal with.
1
@grahamellis6029 Because the UK is still recovering from effects of Covid Lockdown meaning the UK not even reached pre-Covid levels again. The UK needs much longer to get up to old levels. Something the rest of europe already done. Brexit simply makes everything worse.

@lewis123417 Sorry mate. When the UK not even reached pre-pandemic levels you comparing apples with oranges here.

@lewis123417 The UK opened earlier but not recovered yet. Check the ONS. All figures are still below Pre-Covid levels.

I disagree. Once the war is over and Russia returns home the rebuilding will create a new boom in the EU.

@10000years Coal is used because it can quicker be started and stopped with less inefficiencies and only temporary until better storage technologies can be implemented.
