Good. That way the price-setting can be controlled and the profits stay in the ownership of the people and not flow to some obscure offshore account in a tax-paradise.

BS-argument. There is no reason why a private company should be more or less effective than a state-owned. It's just a question of personel. And since this company is still a normal stock-company but with 98% state ownership ... not much has changed actually. Just the profits go to 98% to the people of Germany.

@she825 40% in Gas and 31% in Oil is not really "fully dependent". And even if Russia sells Oil and Gas for World Market prices like everybody else so what is the difference?

You realize that the EU only imports 1/3 of it's oil from Russia? Correction ... had imported ... there is ban in place for a couple months already ... and the world is still turning.

Not actually true (well the nationalization yes but not the gas-part). Gazprom had control over a couple storage facilities and intentionally kept them empty to raise market price. Now under german control they are 95% full and fully in control of the german government ready for the winter.

Nationalization has nothing to do with communism. Germany still has a market economy and no planning economy like in communism. The railway in germany is also a stock company but Germany is 100% owner. All core services of an economy should be nationalized to make sure they are reliable, available, maintained, cheap ... even if they might not always be profitable. Energy, Water, Telecommunication, Local Transport, Waste-Disposal, Education, Healthcare, Social Care.
